Balance Bike

Post by DarcShadow » Tue May 05, 2015 4:27 pm

Sure most of you don't really care, but here's a short video of Connor on his balance bike. He's only been really riding it for a month or 2 now and is advancing his skill very quickly.

As quickly as his skill is improving, I'm convinced this is the best way to learn to ride a bicycle.

Looks like he already has the "biker" gene, good job.

I don't know that I've ever really seen, rode, or know anyone who has a balance bike, but that is definitely a good way to go about it. I remember shoving, chasing, and praying with my kids.

Yeah, it's great. He started just "sitting" on the seat and walking it around. Lately he's starting picking up his feet and coasting once he gets enough speed up and as you can see in the video he's starting to take big long strides and getting a decent amount of speed. Only problem is he'll look back to see how far away from me he's gotten and then loose his balance.

They had a small course set up at one of the motorcycle, or maybe auto, shows with those bikes. The kids were learning to ride pretty easily. They are expensive, though.

Some are, like anything else, if you shop around you can find some reasonably priced ones. This one is the mid sized one and came with two seat options so it should last him a few years.

Ha! Don't let him get his eyes on one of those neat little Yamaha 50cc dirt bikes then.
