Neodymium magnets for the tank bag

Post by dufremle » Fri Oct 02, 2015 8:25 am

I was looking at buying stronger magnets for the tank bag I bought last month.

What do you think of these? Strong enough?

I'm no magnet expert, and it will likely show, but "rare earth" magnets are extemely strong for their size. I use "magnet pushpins" at work...the rare earth magnet on the end is about 0.030" thick, and maybe 0.200" in diameter, and they are extremely strong. I don't know if a Neodymium is the same thing, but reading the detail on your link they should work. I've actually seen some magnetic tank bags advertise these if I'm not mistaken.

I take this to mean you're not done riding yet...cool. :)

They also shatter easy so you have to be careful with them.

Yeah, the article says that..."but if you're careful they'll last a lifetime".

I'm not so careful with my tankbag. I do know we don't have issues with the rare earth magnets in our different applications...they hold up well to different kinds of abuse.

Says the hold 100 times their weight, and that the 4 of them weigh in at .96 ounces so the 4 of them in theory can hold 6 pounds.

They also need to hold through the fabric in the tank bag and the plastic tank cover. I still need to look to see if I can move the magnets from my old tank bag to the new one. I'll try to do that this weekend.
