Dirt riding

Post by shilka99 » Thu Mar 16, 2017 9:42 am

I'll be taking my nephew out riding at Haslet on 3/26.
This is the same place many in the club have been dirt riding before,

https://www.google.com/maps/place/32%C2 ... 0394?hl=en

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Magma ... 97.3668494

From this view you can see the end of Magma. There is a barricade partially blocking the road but we drive through that, hop the curb on the right then drive down into the dry creek bed, following the tire tracks you can see here. The track is off to the left of this image, you can see it best on the first link. I'll get there early so my black suv will be clearly visible.

I'll bring my TTR-125 and my KTM520 and my nephew, who may spend the whole day on my KTM if I let him...
Post up if you plan to come along, and what you will be riding and I'll add you to the list.
We normally arrive around 12-1pm, but we're flexible.

Shaun - KTM520
Ben - TTR125 & KX100
Miles - YZ-125
Shane - RMZ-450 & YZ250

I am planning on going, the questions are if my 13 year old will be with me or not.

And if anyone planning to come out has a Sena communicator, please bring it. Their marketing manager assures me that they fixed the glitches in the 8-way chain and I'd like to test that. I have 5 units so just need a few more.

Okay, both dirt bikes are up and running. The RMZ450 is running great once it is running and the YZ250f still has the flu...bugger to start and wont idle. It runs fair with the choke on, going to swap out the pilot jet tomorrow and see if I can get the fuel screw closer to spec.(its so far out now it wants to just fall out) either way I plan on being there Sunday. I wish I could get that KLX140L I was looking at today for my wife as a 24 year anniversary gift tomorrow. But that might be the last anniversary if I did, so.....maybe not.

I'll be there at noon or before. I can't ride all that long. Mostly just test and tuning. If anyone doesn't have a dirt bike, feel free to come on out and you can ride mine

My nephew is itching to get out there as early as possible... And I'll also be bringing an extra bike. For anyone out there who has never ridden a dirtbike before, this is the perfect opportunity. A flat grass field with no jumps and nothing to hit but the dirt.
We have a nice fun circuit laid out just like a road race course and we can modify it all we need.

Lots of fun.

Wish I saw this earlier and didn't have to baby sit a work thing. I've never ridden a dirt bike but would like to learn! Please let me know next time you do this! :-D

Shaun, that was a BLAST!, your KTM was amazing! Nothing helps me see the needed improvement(steering damper for a start) my bike needs like hoping on a bike like your KTM. The experience and knowledge that you shared was very welcome, thank you. Miles what a deal you got on your 250, for the record I thought it may have had a softer front brake feel on the lever, but the overall braking was better than my bike. I understand that riders are hesitant to hand the keys to their street baby over to anyone but what a great opportunity to sample various dirt bikes and feel the strengths of each bike at a location that is free! Sam keep an eye out for the next dirt ride, I think you will be glad you did. Thanks Shaun!!!!

It sure is an awesome time. No traffic, no speeding tickets, just lots of fun racing.
My video is uploading now, I'll post a link shortly.
