That's just about all of corporate life really....

But TBH, most of the time I sat with an "expert" and was told something wasnt possible, in which they were later proved wrong was astounding. It may not be red/green in reality, but in their opinion it was....

well there is 2 sides, because you got unqualified people saturating the IT world nowadays because demand outweighs the talent. So the experts are about a dumbass as all the "Managers" reaching into the cookie jar and making bank off the others to be just as stupid. 2 layer rule is starting to be in play a whole lot more nowadays. If you dont' know what I mean by that is you can't have any success anywhere if you have 2 layers of stupid on the org chart. If you have 2 levels of stupid you will have failure and it cannot maintain itself, if the higher or lower rung is strong they can bail out said tier.

Nice! Reminds me of the time I was called as the "subject matter expert" and the people in the field wasted over a week trying to fix some test equipment when I told them day one the problem was on the aircraft. When they finally gave up on the test equipment and replaced the box I told them to on the aircraft low and behold the problem went away!

I just had a meeting like it just yesterday...

Customer: "Hey, we need a solution for this problem".
Manager: "I don't have one."
Customer: "But we need one."
Manager: "I don't have one."
Customer: "Who does."
Manager: "I don't."
Customer: "What do we do next?"
Manager: "Escalate"
Customer: "Escalate to who? Your management?"
Manager: "No, I'm representing my management."
Customer: "Then who do we escalate to?"
Manager: "Your CIO needs to fight this out with my CIO."
Customer: "OK, I guess we are done here."
Manager: "I guess so."

Most unproductive meeting all month so far and that's saying a lot.

Had one over the last two weeks, different candidate suppliers for the same thing, not in the same room at the same time:
Us: We want you to build this thing. We have a particular constraint that is important

Supplier1: But that constraint will make it more difficult for us
Us: Um, ok. You don't like it but is it possible? What would the impact be?
Supplier1: We won't say it is absolutely impossible, but we don't think you understand how expensive and time consuming it will be and we think you are over-reacting with the constraint. Trust us, just do it our way.

Supplier2: Sure, we can do it your way, no problem, this is how [shows valid architecture] and it won't cost any more.
