They aren’t old enough to have the same problem. Give it time lol.

We'll find out in another year how the '17 motors hold up. Shouldn't the '18s be out soon?

Lol, I was gonna say..... All the 14s made it through 2015.....not sure I'd trust a 17 without clarification of all the failure modes and engineering changes made.

The only info I have seen on it
" Romano Albesiano, Aprilia Racing Technical Manager, said the 2017 RSV4 engine has lighter pistons, revised connecting rods, and a tweaked ECU brings redline to 13,000 rpm—300 over the 2016’s V4. " and another place said "..a number of friction reducing treatments..."

But nothing addresses the failures directly.

Rick, your motor basically getting rebuilt, should just keep the one you got.

That's the problem - it's being put back to the condition it was in, flaws and all. If it was being "fixed" that would be a different story

Aprilia dealer in Austin, they apparently gave an irresistible cash over to a fellow '14 owner with a spun bearing and convinced another '14 owner that the '17's are "fixed"
TXSR Mike said something similar about the new ones not having the same issues.
And after this experience I wouldn't care what who said what about the RSV4... I wouldn't buy another Aprilia. I'm with Fixxer on this. I would get it fixed and dump it.

Yeah. His was literally the last Aprilia I've had personal knowledge of that didn't have catastrophic or other significant failure.

Good news.

So was that about six weeks to get the parts once they decided to fix it? That seems excessive, but not as excessive as more than two months to diagnose and decide. I wonder how much of that was on Eurosport.

I talked to the parts supplier, apparently I decided to break down the right as Italy took a month off.

Rick, I was thinking of you today and what a long shitty ordeal this has been for you and wondering how long my shit storm will last. Last night at 2.7 hours on the clock the 2018 crf450r motor went "grinder" WTF! SOB!

No warranty. Its funny, the salesman said, "Its a Honda, who needs a warranty?" When I googled "2018 crf450r engine failure" the first search talked about decompression system failures that have occurred. As I read about how they typically present I was pretty sure that was what happened only to be confirmed a couple of hours ago when I lifted the valve cover and the decompression weight and the right camshaft barring fall into my hand. I'm guessing $1500 and a month in the shop.
