Re: Utah and Big Bend and stuff
I just ordered a set of the Karoo 3's. The Continental TKC80 reviews said the rear only lasts about 2000 miles. The Michelin Wild tires are supposedly great off-road, but are noisy and not as stable on pavement. Being that this trip is mostly going to be pavement, and the Karoo's are great on pavement and good for everything except mud, I went with them. They are a lot more expensive than the other tires, though.

If you want to try to mount them yourself we can set a day for you to come over.

Sure. They aren't supposed to arrive until late next week, so it will be after that.JeffStrom wrote:If you want to try to mount them yourself we can set a day for you to come over.

We should ploan on meeting soon to discuss, as this is about 2 weeks away.

I may let you borrow mine. I doubt I'll be able to make the trip at this time.fixxervi6 wrote:You'll need a base, Sunday's weather is going to be shit maybe a good time to huddle into a restaurantdufremle wrote:Rick, can I borrow a Scala? Re: Utah and Big Bend and stuff
Yes. They no longer have the Petrus beer, though.
Rear tire changed out. Probably took a bit over an hour as the bead breaker tool didn't really fit, but with the help of the bead breaker bars I was able to finally get it. Getting the old tire off and the new tire on wasn't too bad, but not as easy as I had expected. It probably didn't help that the tire was cold as hell. Front tire probably Saturday morning. Not sure if that one will be easier or harder due to the size.
Who has a tire balancer? Hmm, don't think the rear tire can be balanced without an adapter.

I looked, the adapter is about $40, shipped.

Re: Utah and Big Bend and stuff
I have a static balancing stand, but like you said you'd need an adapter

Re: Utah and Big Bend and stuff
Cool. I called Freedom Powersports to see how much they want to balance the tires, $40 plus tax for both.JeffStrom wrote:I have a static balancing stand, but like you said you'd need an adapter
The adapter from Marc Parnes is $40. The adapter plus the universal balancer kit BG12 (bar, cone thingies and bearings) is $140, shipped. Leaning towards the kit. Verifying that the kit will work with most other bikes, which I believe it will. Not sure when it would arrive, though. I haven't ordered it yet.

Re: Utah and Big Bend and stuff
No reason the cones, rod, bearings wouldn't work with other bikes.

Re: Utah and Big Bend and stuff
Something else to factor into your costs there, static balancing vs dynamic
