Please be careful when cleaning and lubing your chain

Post by sevorg » Wed Sep 16, 2009 9:31 pm

Don't be a jackass like me and smash your finger in between the sprocket and chain causing your fingernail to completely detach itself from your finger. This really hurts and tends to bleed alot and be very sensitive for quite some time afterwards.

Ouch. I feel your pain. I smashed my big toe once causing a similar effect. The nail was not 100% detached, had to slowly get it pulled off. Then it healed, and the nail came loose again, repeat the slowly getting it pulled out. Then repeat the whole thing one more time. Nail came off 3 times, before it grew 100% attached. Hurt Like hell every time. :-o

The only advice I can give, is keep it clean. Lots of hydrogen peroxide.

Did it to MY big toe, too. :-o Took almost 2 years for it to grow back and be normal. That one put me on the floor close to passing out ... I can take someone ELSE'S blood, no problem, but when it's my own, watch out, I'm going DOWN.

:HeadScratch: Or maybe I'm remembering it being done to a friend, hmmm

That is an unfortunate accident but I definitly agree that should be stickied in the maintenance thread (if by any means, go and copy/paste in the thread). It also goes to show...if ya don't know what you are doin, take a few mins and get some help to know what you are doing.

Darwin's point proven once again. If you're that mechanically stupid you shouldn't be riding, let alone trying to do any kind of maintance.

hey hey hey what you trying to say? I Im too mechanically stupid and shouldn't be riding beacause I pinched my finger cleaning my chain? Or just this guy cause he tried to clean his chain with his bike running like a total f-ing dunce. Or "STUMBLE BUM" as my dad would call it.

Yes I too was shocked by the shear stupidity.

Sevorg, you MAY be stupid, but that's not what everyone was saying. :-) It's about the thread that shows the guy that amputated half his fingers doing the same thing .... GOD, makes me sick just thinking about those photos.

If someone wants to sticky that thread, go ahead, just put a NSFV (Not Suitable for Viewing) warning on it. :D
