I need new gloves

Post by Stardog82 » Thu May 03, 2012 10:33 am

The fingers in my gloves are going out and I need some new ones. My bike is yellow, and for as much as I don't give a crap about matching, I don't want to look like a complete tard either, so I figured black would be ok. Other than color, how do these look? The gloves I have are the ones I got with the bike, so I really don't know what all to look for. Thanks, fellers!

Don't buy gloves online.. You need to try them on. Go to cyclegear and find a set that fit well. Also, who made them?? I couldn't figure that out.

If you're going for gauntlets, try them on like Fender said. each manufacturer fits a bit different. A "M" in Dainese fits me perfectly, but a "M" in Alpinestars are too tight and causes my fingertips to jam in and is a bit painful after awhile. I would also stay away from no-name gloves in this arena, as the generic manufacturers likely don't do testing (like abrasion, impact, etc.). Last thing you want is to save $20 on a set of gloves and pay for it later on when you need them to perform.

Although, for $37, you're not throwing all that much away if they turn out to be crap, might be a worth while gamble. You're going to be looking in the $100-150 range for reasonably good name brand gloves and even higher if you want really good gloves. Bit of warning though, unless you are prepaird to spend the big bucks, don't even try them on, you won't want to not buy them once you feel how great they fit.

One thing I would watch for, and those in the link do have it, that little pice of velcro at the wrist. You want something like that to help keep them on. I had some gloves that didn't have that, and just velcroed at the gauntlet part and you could rather easily pull the gloves off without undoing the velcro.

I've tried a few different brands, and thus far I like the perforated Icon Pursuit gloves best (for the Summer). They've outlasted every other Summer glove that I've tried, feel comfortable, and provide plenty of ventilation. As a bonus, they're Icons, so they might make you better at pulling wheelies...

Thanks for the tip about the wrist velcro, and thanks for the links. Looks like I have some real shopping to do. I really don't want to spend 65 bux if I don't have to :(

I hear ya, but when it comes to protecting my own skin, I don't skimp. Plus, as DarcShadow said, $65 is far from the high end of gloves.

My Shift gloves with carbon fiber knuckles and multiple Layers on multiple areas are awesome for like $80

Gauntlet style as well. My wife has the women's ones and likes them too.
