Thanks DD, your vid confirmed a lot of what I know already and will actively work on from now on. If I'm not following someone around the track, I'm way too slow/cautious. I can see it, and hear it in your throttle. My bad for slowing you down, but thanks for the vid :)

Heres a video from Saturday with a data overlay using just the gps in my iPhone.

The Accuracy gauge shows how unsuitable the standard iPhone gps is for lap timing, but it was still useful for the purposes of the day. The iPhone app, Track Addict, was supposed to record lap count and lap times but never managed to do this. Luckily the overlay program, Racerender, was able to calculate these.
First thing I did Monday was order the Bad Elf gps receiver to get more accurate details next time. I still plan to get a logger that can accept analog inputs but for coaching purposes this setup offers all the functionality I need and all up was under $200 (not counting the gopro or the iPhone).

Does that thing support an external Blue Tooth GPS module? I've got a similar setup going on that works REALLY well, but uses a stand alone GPS that is tuneable, just talks via bluetooth.

I haven't had it at the track yet, but the test run I did with it turned out really well.

TrackAddict is collecting the data and it only supports apple compliant external gps receivers. I had a new one arrive in the mail today and sure enough it gives 10Hz data rates in Track Addict. This will increase accuracy a great deal. It would be much easier if it was blutooth but instead it connects directly to the iPhone which is a pain. But the results are worth it.
The video is from the gopro and imported into Race Render along with the data from Trackaddict which is compatible with a range of logger file formats. Its very easy to use and can give good results. Some of the other instructors use Trackvision and say its also very good.
