TXSR DFW Maintenance day

Post by fixxervi6 » Sun Feb 01, 2015 12:54 pm

Sunday, February 8, 2015
1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Nielson Garage
2711 Marquise Circle East, Arlington, TX (map)

Want to do some basic maintenance but don't have the tools? Or learn to do some basic maintenance with the assistance of someone who's been there, done that?

Join us then as we assist and educate those who want it on these basic skills:

*Chain adjust
*Fit new chain/sprockets
*Fit new tires
*Install new brake pads
*Bleed brakes
*Change oil/filter
*Change fork oil
*What to expect at a Ridesmart Tech Inspection

If you need new tires installed, bring them to me or Shaun prior to the maintenance day. Also consider hauling your bike instead of riding.

We'll order pizza's or you can bring a donation snack/beverages of your choice.

We welcome ANYONE who has experience and wants to help others!

I dont think I have replaced my fork oil yet so I might see about getting out there and see how that is done. I just have to try to get the day off to make it. Of course that probably wont happen lol.

If anyone is planning on maintenance or anything major be sure to give RC30 a heads up so he can prepare.

This would be awesome to attend to help others and learn a thing or two. I'll be in Chicago next weekend though so sadly I'll won't be able to attend.

I would love to be there, but I will be in Maryland for my daughters birthday! Would love to learn about changing the fork oil. Kinda in that process right now. Not by choice as you can see in the last picture.

I'd like to check my fork oil levels. Not sure if the left one is still leaking or not or how much oil it might have lost.

I want to check out exactly where my stator cover is dripping tiny bits of oil after riding for a while (nothing to be alarmed about - Fixxer and Firewa11 have seen it), but just to figure out how to stop it and what a good plan of attack would be. Yeah you guys all could just do it for me, but I want to learn and do it myself too you know ^_^

Only thing, possible rides on this day so I'm not sure about timing. Depending on what is what, maybe swing by on the bikes after the ride or sumfin.

So i've had this problem as well, i kept thinking i had messed up the gasket every time i put it on(i went through 3 gaskets). Finally i cleaned it up really really good & filled it with water. I left it there for a few hours & came back...nothing. came back the next day & could see where it had been slightly leaking. It was just the smallest of hairline cracks.

Well I hope that is not my problem. I will have to speed up the process and use gas instead.

yea there's half of your problem already.

Polo, two things to look into without knowing what "wonky" defines. 1, is the cable housing pulling in & out well, does it need some cleaning, maybe some dirt causing problems, drop of oil?? 2, check the o-ring & spring. Also some have kind of a felt pad that needs to be oiled every once & awhile.

You bike is brand new isnt it? If so I would take it to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty.

Thanks Miles and DD! Can't ask the dealer to fix it under warranty because it's a leftover hiccup from a crash. For the most part she's 99.9% happy, just weepy now and then.

I think Firewa11 mentioned something about some kind of liquid putty stuff (sorry I can't remember the name). We did try JB weld on the cover when she was leaking bad from a hairline when it bit the median, but, it couldn't hold up so we just replaced the entire cover. It's not OEM so probably a fraction off of a true, good fit. Hahaha, love it Striple, that's going to be her new motto when it happens!!!
