I really want to get a drone. Think it may be my next completely pointless purchase. There's one that can track targets once locked on. The drone will follow and the camera will try to keep the target center frame, I think that'd be pretty cool on a track day. :) Unfortunately the prices are crazy high for ones with all the bells and whistles, like $2500 high. :(

$2,500 is just the low level of the units that have the cool stuff and decent flight time. To get the really good stuff you're looking more in the $10,000 arena.

Talk to Jeff and Cory at the next ridesmart event. They have a drone that can follow a flight plan or hold position at the push of a button. I have no idea how much it cost but Jeff showed me the long list of features they havent even started to explore yet.

Probably has a DJI Phantom, it seems to be the high end entry level drone of choice.

My friends production company uses them. They did a shoot with Cadillac using them. I asked how much it would be to hire them out one day at the track...it's pretty outrageous lol

I looked into getting one of those DJI Phantoms, but they're releasing new versions so quickly it doesn't seem worth locking into one.

The ability to program a flight path is hands down the most useful feature for this kind of work. You can let the drone do the work of not flying over the track so you're not putting riders in danger.

Well, if it isn't going to have missiles, or phasers, or tasers, or lasers, or at the very least a .50 Cal, what exactly is the point anyway?

I mean shooting video is cool and all, but you need to see some stuff getting decimated while you're doing it.

This could be a fun new racing format: not only do you have to focus on passing and not being passed, but you must also attempt to dodge shots from drones that are circulating the track. Throw in some chains to swing for the riders, and we've got ourselves a fun new format! :))

That's surprising, while not specifically banned there is wording in the FAA guidelines that makes use of drones for commercial purposes a touchy area that most companies stay away from.

Their company is kind of "out of the box" thinking. I know caddy did hire them, i'll see if they can release any of the footage.

I was reasonably sure your idea of "fun" might be a little skewed when I started reading about snakes, but now I'm just about positive. :-)

In rethinking it however, we bike riders should be able to shoot back, shouldn't we? Yes, I know, just one more thing to manage, but surely we can build some of this into those fancy new electronics packages that are all the rage now. :))

It is definitely skewed. In fact, I hear that there are people out there who live a life without snakes. That's insane! :D

You should meet my aunt, she's deathly afraid of snakes, even rubber snakes scare the hell out of her.

Ophidiophobia is super common all over the world. It doesn't even matter whether there are potentially lethal species in that particular area or not, lots of cultures fear snakes. Its silly.

Snakes are only scary because they will fking kill you. My mom is super afraid of snakes though. She tried to pass the phobia down but mostly failed. She kept it along with her fear of financial insecurity.

And that video is badass.

There was a study done once that showed more people were afraid of spiders then of dying, which is silly cause the whole reason to be afraid of something is it might kill you.
