my wreck and status

Post by DarcShadow » Wed Aug 12, 2015 10:30 pm

So as you may know i had a freak go down on the 1st. All i remember is some nasy head shake and thinking how do i get out of this. Turns out the answer i came up with sucked.

ended up with 2 maybe 3 fractured ribs and a broken left collar bone that later shifted and now over laps itself by about a half inch. I go in for surgery Friday to fix it. It will be an out patient procedure and will actually cut my recovery time in about half.

Also have some pretty serious bruising on my right hand so its not of much use either.

Yeah, I watched it again with full-screen...that's messed up. In the small screen version I first thought that was Matt tumbling in the distance...that may be the end of the CBR, wow.

Nasty headshake for sure...looked like something broke almost, I'm assuming it wasn't a tire. :HeadScratch:

It looked far worse from the fence line where Grinner and I were standing. It looked like you were thrown, or jumped, off the bike then rolled into the grass. We lost you in the tall grass. Then the bike did several tumbles.

Damn, that was impressive. After watching the video a few times it looked like a tire blow out.

Get well soon!

I've watched the video a few times, I'm going to go the unpopular route and say this was rider error AND the seams had nothing to do with it.

1. There is a spot on that straight that if your driving hard it shakes you pretty bad, I have video of myself getting the piss shaken out of me someplace, Thomas witnessed it, and it's not due to a seam, I may look for the video later cause it was pretty violent.

2. when you can see the bike clearly, the tank slapper is being transmitted to the rear wheel, that's physics/motorcycling 101 when you go into massive head shake and you hold on too tight the shake is transmitted to the rear wheel (there was no pumping just straight slapper being transmitted to rear wheel). Twist of the wrist does a very good job explaining how and why this happens.

3. the smoking gun - when Matt bails off the bike it immediately stops shaking

Shake induced from that bad patch of pavement, then holding on too tight when it started shaking. Classic tank slapper while holding on too tight, this is the exact same thing that got Telomere.

That is my non-professional assessment of a gnarly ass crash - you know he was haulin when you look to the left and you see that bike just flying through the air

i see the tank slapper start at 18sec mark, possibly before but due to the camera it's hard to tell. This would for sure put it before the seam.

That was the start of a tank slapper in my video, it's hard to see in the video but it was very violent and Thomas can attest to it - it wasn't a seam I hit, if your driving hard and you go to the outside of that seam there is something with the pavement that is evil.

I'd lay money the shaking started when Matt's bike was hidden from view, and when it comes back into view the rear was already shaking too so I'm going to go out on a limb and say his started pretty damn close to where mine did in that video.

Wish i could remember more details. I had been getting a little head shake there off an on through the day and it wasnt a big deal. Something about that time caused it to be worse for some reason and i probable tensed up a little but it all happened so fast there wasnt any time for me to really think about any thing.

I've gotten shake through there a few times, that was the one time I happen to get a big one on video.

It was the end of the day so fatigue was probably a factor along with the heat, dulls the mind.

There are ripples in the pavement in that section next to the seam. If you are pushing hard you will drift right into them. You either over compensate and go way wide or go shallow and don't cross the seam.

The ripples are only noticeable if you are on them. Like for example if you walk the entire track or ride a bicycle, like they used to back in the day. Now everyone hops in the back of a truck and they only stop in the corners. That's lazy bullshit, the straights areally just as important if not more than the corners. Think about it? Where do you set up for the corners? Where are you traveling the fastest?

Jeeeeeeze..... I'm glad you are okay. So pulling out grass instead of rocks this time? Keep this up and you'll have yourself a side landscaping business!

Dragon- I agree. Don't just throw me out there and wish me good luck, if someone is going to teach me how to ride the track, show me the track too. Common sense. Sorry not derailing ;)

I understand brother. Mine was the same way. I was in the corner then I was on the ground. No time to do anything at all. I have ideas of what happened after looking at the video of my crash but its all speculation.
