Cat delete question.

Post by Benitez1117 » Thu Aug 27, 2015 1:03 pm

Fellas, I want to remove the Cat from my zx10r in order to make it sound beefier. Do I need to get a power commander or is it okay if I just get the mid pipe and only the mid pipe? Don't necessarily feel like shelling out $360 for something I really don't see myself using...

Removing the cat does change your AF quite a bit.
I'd recommend it.

yea, there is a very very good chance you might lose hp in a certain rpm if you do this

When I dropped the cat / stock pipe combo from my '06 Gixxer and put on a 2-bros, as well as locking the butterfly wide open, I had to put in a power commander to smooth everything back out. Gained about 5hp.

I gained 5hp as well but that was using a bazzaz tuned by a shop

As much money as these machines cost go all the way and do it right.

I have a 2-bros slip on but I'm not sure if there is an O2 sensor.
I really want to get rid of that clunky cat and make the bike sound better so that others can also watch out for me.
the previous owner didn't use a power commander once he installed the slip on but then again its not the shorty that eliminates the cat just the one that attaches to it.

Also, instead of getting a power commander could I take it to a shop and have them tune it or something? I just don't see myself ever really using the PCV other then to make the bike run well after I drop the cat.

Imagine my disappointment when I realized this had nothing to do with eliminating felines. :(

I'm not sure about your bike but with ecuflash custom maps could be loaded into the ecu. Thus you wouldnt really need PC5.
Being an 11 you have an O2 sensor, I dont know of any new jap bikes outside of 250s that still run carbs.

Reflashing the ecu will cost you any where from $400 to $600 for a reputable shop in Cali that specializes in Kawasakis. It will bump up the hps to match the Aprillia & BMW (179 hp range). Besides the price drawback, you'll need to remove the ecu and send it to them. Takes 2 to 4 weeks for them to get it reflash it and send it back. So no riding during that time.

I would get the PCV if it was me. Install is easy you can get maps for it that are already set for your setup or at least close. Going to a good shop to have it set up is better but not a must.
