Water Pump Dilemma

Post by Grinner » Sun Apr 25, 2010 7:57 pm

Ok folks, heres' the situation. Apparently Suzuki cant pull their head outta their asses and put the wrong phuckin part # for the damn bearing I need for this friggin pump. So of course, when I ordered the parts at the Werkz, we ordered the part they they had listed for my pump. The bearings are so far different from each other that I cant use the new ones.

Now, here are the options that I am sitting on...
1) Call the shop on Tues. and fill in Dave on the situation and get the new ones on their way.
2) Re-install the old ones.
3) Push ahead on my electric pump idea and just get it over with.

Cons for each.
1) More phucin down time and I sure as hell ain't payin for the new ones unless I can have them by monday or tuesday.
2) The old ones feel a little worn and not sure that I want to risk bearing failure that might lead to loose parts in the motor and a motor failure.
3) Unknown costs and very little time to deal with right now. Im in the idea stage only right now. Also, MORE PHUCIN DOWN TIME!!!

I'm just really pissed right now and just want this phucin bike back together so I can get out and ride. :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o :-o

I say raise hell and get them to overnight the correct parts. If you go high enough up the cust service side you will get what you want..... just dont back down.

dont use the ones you think are going bad, they are going to fail and then you will have to replace them AGAIN

My advice: Suck it up on the down time and do what it takes to get the right parts. I speak from experience when I say that hybrid ideas (you have seen my SV) rarely ever work out as good as you hope/plan. Half assing things usually ends up bad for me as well. Stick with it the way it was designed and enjoy it.

Call the shop, and get the right ones. And while you've got the down time, I voted option 4, have another round.

Do option one first then get on with option four.

Yeah, down time sucks, but definitly call Dave and let him know what is going on. I am sure he will get things settled for you. (this is what I would do)

I say order the right parts, then while you are waiting for them come out to the camp site and get trashed. :D

Update....
As of yesterday, I found a bearing company in the area that has the correct bearings that I am looking for. I contacted them and should have two in my PO BOX tonight when I get home. The only difference between these and the ones needed is a seal plate that I will pop off once I get em home.
Haven't talked to Dave yet, but once I get some free time, I will hit him up and let him know for future benefits.
Soooo, with fingers crossed and hopefully some time this week.....the Redhead may actually be street worthy again.

and that will make him a very happy camper since I think if he gotten any more frustrated he would've thrown all the parts that were sitting in the game room out the window, and tried to find SOME sort of way to get a new bike and just say phuc it.

as for drinking, that may be a little while longer. i'm sure once the parts come in and he really gets going on the bike again that'll occur, if not after she's back down and purring.

Has anyone pointed out to him a site like ronayers.com, which has an online exploded parts diagram with all of the OEM parts he needs without having to go through a dealer or a local 'hail mary hope it's the right bearing set' company? I mean, I'm not sure of the exact year you got Grinner, but I found this in about 20 seconds:

I don't think the problem was trying to find the right bearing, I think the problem was that the bearing listed in the fiche was the incorrect part number. Nothing you can do when the fiche is wrong.

I'm not positive, but I think CycleWerkz uses the ron ayers system to look up parts. I'll check with Dave and verify.

Firewall, thanks for pointing that out but I double checked the fische in a couple of places and the part # listed for the bearing calls for a 10x22x6mm (6900 series bearing) and the one that belongs in the bike is a 10x26x8mm (6000 series bearing). Just one friggin digit is wrong!! :-o

On the lighter side....
I got home last night and the prize was in my box! Yeee Friggin HAW!!!!! Opened em up, broke off the seals, and double checked the sizes. Bingo, we have a WINNER!!! All thanks to...

American Bearing Company(<<<click there)
Spoke to a Bill Jones, and he got me squared away and the parts mailed out that morn to be in my box by the time I got off work Tuesday.
If you need bearings, give these guys a call. Extremely quick to help and and extremely courteous!

Now, after the shameless (but very thankful) plug.... :)
As long as there are no more interruotions, I will have her back on the ground by this weekend. If not tonight!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your input. It helped to keep me from doing something that probably would have really done me in.
