How not to race a dirtbike

Post by Blinker » Sat May 08, 2010 8:14 pm

Heya folks! It's been awhile but I thought this was post worthy. Happened May 2nd at the race down at Nacogdoches. Terrain is pretty much like racing on a beach... only they through in root and tight tree's. The end result for me was I hit a root which through me off track so I decided to hug a tree are race speed.... I don't recommend this. Broke the femur in 2 places (X-Ray is shown at the end of the video) and broke my jaw in 2 places. Lucky for Mall my jaw is rubber banded so I can't back talk :(

If you want to skip the riding part just go to 4:50 for the opps following a count of how bad my short term memory was afterwards... I was doing good ... until

DAYUM JOE! Maybe you should have stuck to street riding, where the trees are a little more spread out!

Wow Joe thats awful. Looks like you lost the front, put a foot down to stay up, and that kept you up just long enough to collect the tree.
On every one of your vids the trees look just close enough to the racing line for me to not want to try an enduro. Now I'll never do one.

Let me know when you are ready to ride again, I found the perfect place to ride. Its flat, wide open and has no trees at all. Perfect for riding a road race style circuit on dirt... The only thing you can hit is grass!

lol ya racing a street bike is far more safe than racing enduro's. @ least with road racing there is run-off... and no roots or rocks directly in the line lol. RC30Fan: ya when I came around the corner I got on the gas at the same time that the front hit a gnarly root which sent me off course... I was probably inches from missing the tree and finishing the race. Thanks for the well-wishes. The goal is to be healed and racing @ muenster in Nov. PT ftw, only my whole right leg is one big bruise now that the surgery swelling has gone down... so that's ftl :)

He didn't take them did he? Looked to me like he pulled them off, saw that you were alive and then left. I would like to believe he went to get help but hard to say.

Looked like he pulled off the goggles, saw he was alive/needed help, then pulled his bike off the trail to render aid. Although, I could not help but to notice it looked as though he grabed his goggles and ran.

No, he pulled up, took off his goggles, saw from his eyes he was messed up, and hauled ass back to get help.

Ya my dad has the gog's. It's assumed that once he took off the gog's and saw my eye's were f*******cked up he started up and rode like the wind to the next check to let someone know that there was a really downed rider. I went back to look at all the footage and you can see him look down at what i'm assuming is his odom to try and remember the mileage to report back to the next check to tell them where I was. Luckily the next row had the EMT that was able to wait on me while help came. It was pretty awesome because the folks at cycleland let the riders who stopped to render aid avg out this race so they weren't penalized for stopping to help a down rider... really awesome of them.

BIG props to the EMT that gave up the race and stopped to help along with all the others that stopped to help!!!!!!

I was also wondering how that would turn out for the riders that stopped to give aid. That is really awesome of them to do that!

it would be shitty of anyone so competative that they dont stop! I'm sure any prize money for this level of racing isnt the money maker.

LOL prize money.... nope... all you get is a piece of wood. No money is involved unless you are the chosen 10 riders to be in the AA class. So the only thing these folks race for is a piece of wood that you can hang on the wall. I've got an email into the scoring dept of the TSCEC to try and find out the guys name or email address to see what his side of the story is. What I can come up with so far is he didn't even finish the race if it's the guy i'm thinking he is... So Karma may have caught up with him 3 hours later.

Joe, you got a bit of a problem with remembering what you just said? Also seems that 'you didn't know what happened'. :-) Glad to see that you're healing up somewhat, but it must really suck eating a hamburger crumbled up like it's for a 2 year old.

Good to see you and Mal last night. Hope you both heal up soon. :(

I finally got around to looking at this post and the video. Damn. That really sucks. Good to see your doing alright though. And it was Joe that kept saying he didn't know what happened. The EMT guy helping him kept telling him that he hit a tree.
