Bike Night - 10/28 - Location discussion

Post by djrtx » Sat Oct 23, 2010 6:59 am

I am posting this here, because I haven't figured out how to start a new thread.

Our last "fourth Thursday" bike night for 2010 is next week, October 28, at the Pour House. That is also the night of the second game of the World Series, a game that starts at 7:30. Judging by the crowd at the Pour House last night, the place will be packed by 6:30.

Any ideas?

Humm, good observation. Back when we were at F&H they'd work with us to keep an open area, even during big sporting events or UFC fights. I'm not sure that we're to the point where PH will do that for us yet.

Are there TVs out on the patio? If not, the crowd will probably be a bit lighter out there, maybe we can just hang out there throughout the night.

There are TV's on the west portion of the patio. There is a portion to the east where there is no television view. When we got there about 6:30, there were no seats left in the area without televisions, and the area with them was standing-room-only. Inside was packed as well.

We walked over to Tillman's, Delany's, and some of the other places in the area and they were all packed. We never found a place to watch the game. We don't get TBS at home, so we missed it.

I don't want to sound negative, but if we just showed up at our regular time and thought there would be room for us, we might be disappointed.

Across the street there's 7th Haven, with a big rooftop balcony with no TVs. Parking is a problem though. There might be space in the parking lot across the side street though. When I get outta work I will see on my way home.

Do we not have at least some space reserved for our bike night in general? If so, I'd say we're probably okay. We may not get as many open spots outside, but inside, that area we have should suffice. Also, even though it would be a Rangers World Series game, Game 6 was on a Friday which adds a little bit more to traffic. I'd believe that we'd be okay and not really have to worry about going somewhere else. That being said, I have a 7:00 volleyball game, so I'm hoping to be at the P House around 8:00pm.

Also, maybe one of our club officers can get in touch with management and check on that for us :)

Diabro, you may be right, that one of the reasons it was packed was because it was a Friday night. It may have been packed anyway. I may be concerned for no reason. At least I hope so.

Just called and spoke to somebody there, they said that it was unlikely they'd be able to reserve any space. Said they cancelled all their regular events (weekly poker tourney, etc), and people were showing up really early, and it got to the point that it was almost impossible to walk. He suggested that I call back tomorrow and speak to the GM, but I'd think that we would want to try looking into an alternate venue for this week. F&H will be packed as well...

Yeah, can't imagine any place worthwhile wont be packed with it being the Rangers 1st World Series. The trick would be figuring out a place that will let us reserve a few tables and we have a few peeps get there early! Maybe the GM there would have a different opinion on giving us at least a little bit of area. Keep us posted (duh, right?!)

We could go old school and have bike night at a chicken express.

Bike Night Old School, I don't know about Chicken Express but anyone know what Sonic has the best looking car hops? Or we could race the 820-635 loop around the entire DFW metroplex, like the squids. Or maybe Ricks Caberet won't be too busy early on. Thursday is their customer appreciation night this month Dragonfly told me.

I can get to the Pour House at 5. Stake out that Pergula on the Patio and just chase off others that try to crash our space. I know A&I could get there early too. Blizz before she heads off for scool. Ninja Guy has his own business so he could let himself off early from work Thursday.

Does Cyclegear still do their thursday bike nights in Lake Worth? We might be able to just crash theirs... although, I seem to recall theirs being at a BWW. Probably won't be much better. Sonic would be funny... if anybody has any ideas that might work, post 'em up. I'll update in a bit with what the GM at PH says...

I dont get out of Lab until 4, and then have to be back by 730. I could come out, but it just doesnt seem worth it to me.

Yeah, just got off the phone with the GM (Jeff). He said they would not be able to hold open any space for us... he said they had over 650 people in there the other night for the game. Yikes. He said we could try and show up early and get our area, but with the game starting at 7, I'd imagine we'd have to be there reaaaly early, and we'd probably still get overrun. I'd lean towards moving somewhere else for this week. The question is, where? Just called cyclegear, they're doing their bike nights any more... You think Twin Peaks would be overrun with people?

Pretty much any bar type restraunt with a TV is going to be overrun. A meetup at a city park, or a fast food type place is most likely the best we'll be able to do.

Unless we reserve a party-room at a Restaurant someplace?
I know the BBQ place down the street from me has a seperate party / meeting room.
There is a nice hotel bar down the street as well.

You know, that's really not a bad idea. Pick a spot at, say, Trinity Park (right down the road from PH) with some picnic tables or something, just have everybody show up and do a potluck style dinner. That could be fun. Yea/nay?

Or maybe Kincaid's or Freebirds over by the Hulen mall. Potbelly sandwitch shop, redbrick pissa and cold stone creamery are all right there next to kincaids as well. There's a Red Hot & Blue off of Hulen and 30, not sure how well that'd work for us though.

How well is Trinity Park lit? It'll be dark by the time bike night officially starts.

Here is my idea the Arlington highlands- they have a few bars tons of parking, lots of light, all kinds of food from fast-food to upscale .
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body; but rather to skid in sideways thoroughly used up, totally worn out and yelling at the top of your lungs "Holy Shit...What a ride!"

sounds cool Mahart, but on the calander they advertised the Rangers game for the 23rd. My guess is they are going to be catering to the Rangers crowd as well on bike night.
