ICON gear

Post by govnor » Fri Feb 09, 2007 9:52 pm

I noticed someone asking about the ICON field armor boots. I personally think they look kind of cool, but I already wear the oldschool metal ring boots. Yeah, I kinda look like a greaser from the 50's. I did recently buy the ICON jeans, spine protector and motorhead jacket.

The jeans rock. I wear them even when not riding. It's hard to find black jeans anyway, but they make 'em. They seem extra thick compared to my regular jeans. I don't know how they'd do in a fall, but it's better than the shorts and tennis shoes that I see a lot of squids riding around in.

The spine protector fits pretty well under the jacket and for $100 seemed like a good deal to me. I watched a video where a guy was riding a wheelie on a median and lost it. This was one of those guys that does stunts all the time. He was probably doing 40 MPH. He broke his spine in that crash and that's what prompted me to get this thing since I have been known to do a wheelie from time to time.

The jacket is just great. The leather is thick, it fits really well and seems like it's up to the job. It looked better than anything else I tried on.

I think ICON makes some pretty good gear. I really wanted some of those mad max looking gloves with the titanium armor, but they quit making them. They certainly look like they'd be up to the job of beating a cager's ass that has been riding your back tire for the last three miles.

I got yelled at for not wearing my back protector when I went down at the track...
I was in pain for 2-3 weeks when I hit hard falling off a low side.

Back protectors absorb the energy when your ass is hitting the ground,
didn't do me any good having it sitting in the back seat of my car when I crashed.

Thanks for th Icon feedback, I like their accessories, I have their boots and pants too,
very comfortable stuff... and safe.

Cheers,
