Re: Loogies
Don't sneeze if possible. Press your tongue flat and hard against the roof of your mouth, it will suppress the sneeze reflex. If you do sneeze, reach in there and wipe it out. Or just clean your helmet when you get where you're going.
What bugs me is when you splatter a bug and can't quite get the face shield clean with just your glove. Then you have to reach into your helmet to spit on your glove while it already has some bug guts on it. Ah, the joys of motorcycling.

Re: Loogies
I have found its best to let the bug dry a bit first, I had a big one in the middle of my shield that I just managed to smear to the point I had to pull over because I couldn't see. That was using the spit method.Rhino wrote:Don't sneeze if possible. Press your tongue flat and hard against the roof of your mouth, it will suppress the sneeze reflex. Bugs are terrible. Smear factor is insane. No good. No good. Garden hose? NO. Pressure wash, perhaps.

Re: Loogies
I just wait until I get home the put a damp paper towel on it. The bugs come right off.

That's why you make sure all your vents are closed before using it, and use paper towels to dry it, before you open the vents back up. Keeps the water from getting inside and on the pads, and keeps you from having to smell it.

That works with girly-length rides. Big hairy chest-thumping manly rides, your faceshield will be opaque with bugs before you got home.toy7521 wrote:I just wait until I get home the put a damp paper towel on it. The bugs come right off.
(seriously though, one good bug swarm in the middle of Oregon will have you rethinking the "wait until I get home" strategy)

Re: Loogies
Go to walmart and get some glasses cleaning spray. It comes in a nice little travel size that you can put under your seat really easy with a cloth. It has free refills so when you get close to runnin out just drop by walmart and use your free refill. Never run out... never have stinky shit on your helmet... it is safe for the tent and stuff. Good stuff I tell ya.

When I get a big bug splat, I don't stop. I wipe it off as best I can immediately while it's still wet, and if it won't come clean I spit on my glove and wipe it off that way. Works every time.

Re: Loogies
I wasnt talking about while riding... but I have thought about getting those tear away strips like they use in racing. That would be cool. While riding I rarely have to wipe bugs off ... I simply let them build up till my next stop then clean the shield and go again. Sometimes I get one I wipe away ... but have never had to spit on my glove to do it .... I just use a different finger once the first one is to messy.

Re: Loogies
I smash and smear as soon as they hit the visor to provide a hydrophobic layer of bug guts for rainy days.
