Moderate Ride - Saturday July 14th

Post by DarcShadow » Tue Jul 10, 2012 2:55 pm

I'll lead a moderate ride this Saturday. We'll leave Sonic at 8:00. Not sure on an exact route yet but there will be a lunch stop and we'll probably be back into the Fort Worth area around 3:00 or so.

Ok, got a route planned out with lunch at a German place in Muenster.

We'll be passing near Indian Bridge

You should probably cancel all bike nights then so people stop drinking and driving/riding.

We could start meeting at Toys R Us or something...

Its actually quite simple, dude. While some of us may have a beer at bike night, we don't drink on any of our scheduled rides. Its part of the club culture, and should really be respected accordingly. If you disagree with that philosophy, then you always have the option of hanging with some of the other clubs out there, many of which would gladly go riding from bar to bar with you.

Oh yeah, and I'm in tonight, but out for the ride. :icon_ontopic:

The club is not against drinking, there is simply a time and place for things. A club ride is not the time or place to be drinking.

I won't be making this ride btw so somehow you guys will have to find a way to manage this one without me :))

I do have a couple of beers at bike night, but I also have my last drink at least 2 hours before I leave.

And having far too many drinks, i.e. getting buzzed, and then going off and getting on a bike or behind the wheel of a car while not waiting enough time for the drinks to move through your system is also not only dangerous and stupid, but equally frowned upon.

Like it or not, we have our core philosophies in place for a reason. We promote riding fast, but doing so as safely as possible. Throwing alcohol into ANY motorsport-related activity is asking for a Darwin award. Save the alcohol for after the ride is over. I guarandamntee you there are plenty of folks that would gladly drink you under the table (myself included), outside of a situation where getting on a bike or behind the wheel is a possibility.

You are risking more than your own safety when drinking on a club ride. Why should anyone want to reduce the margin of error in a group ride? I haven't met you, so if you're kidding, sorry to come off preachy. If you're not kidding, then yeah, a minor priority tweak may be in order.

I cant remember if I have met ya either however. When on a club ride you are representing the club. If you leave from bikenight and get pulled over for drinking and driving then you represent yourself. We still frown upon it because we are family and dont want to see family get hurt.... unlike most of the clubs that could care less and wouldnt even stop if you wreck. Also when riding the bike I find it is all the fun I need and alcohol would just hinder the fun.

In my line of work I get to talk to people all the time who drink and drive. I have to say that if you are drinking and driving you need to seriously think it over and think about the risk. The risk to your life and others and even the risk that I will be watching over you one day at work. The sad thing is that most people in prison for drinking and driving come back over and over and over. There are many ways to have a great time with great people without drinking.

Looks like I'm not going to be able to make the ride. My girlfriend is still recovering from knee surgery and is tethered to this cooler deal that circulates ice. Anywho , I can't leave her alone long since I'm doing most everything for her ,for another day or so. Yall have a great and safe time.
