Ducati 996 rebuild.

Post by shilka99 » Fri Apr 26, 2013 11:25 pm

I was finally able to spend some time on my Ducati tonight after the flaking rocker debacle from a few weeks ago (http://www.fwmr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=8134)
The last of the tools arrived today so I got started on lapping the cylinder heads and valves.

This shot shows the new valve seal surface after lapping (right side intake valve). And you can also see how poor the valve seal was with the flaking rockers. With the surface of the rocker gone the intake valves werent closing properly and as a result you can see signs of combustion in the intake tracts!

More to come

I think I know why but....you left all the carbon in the combustion area...why?

The motor was running waaaay too rich - but this can be fixed with a simple adjustment of the mixture screw in the ECU. Once its running with the proper fuel/air ratio this sticky oily residue will burn off all on its own.
