Going to COTA to watch? - not riding - PLEASE READ

Post by DarcShadow » Thu May 30, 2013 10:03 am

From MotoDFW
You are more than welcome to come to COTA to watch your friends & family...

HOWEVER, in order to have access to the paddock, you must inform the RS employee at the paddock entrance (where waivers are signed and wrist bands will be issued) who you are there to watch, or which forum you are from. If you are unable to provide the name of a rider or an approved forum, then you will only be allowed to watch from the T1 grandstands.

Once the rider name or forum is verified, then you will be issued a wristband that will allow you access into the paddock. After you are issued your wrist band, you will be directed to Lot A via tunnel 1. After you park, you may either watch from T1, or use the Tunnel 1 walkway to go back into the paddock. Non-rider vehicles will not be allowed into the paddock.

While you are in the paddock, you will have access to the Paddock Club viewing area - an open-air covered viewing area on the 2nd floor that allows good views of the main straight and T1. Entrance to the Paddock Club is by use of the stairs at the end of the paddock building by pit out. Only riders and staff will be allowed in the classrooms. You may also eat at the Cafe if you wish (located in the media center).

From what I can tell, because nobody from FWMR is a RS instructor.

I just read up on how WFO got the relationship they did, and it hinged on a couple of their members becoming instructors in exchange for RS sponsoring them.

We are also rather small compared to the other forums.

We may be small but we DO bring people to the track, we DO bring Dave customers. It would be nice to have some recognition for that, we promote the hell out of ridesmart.

Not that many.

Look at all the hands that go up in L1 every day for who is new to the track. Then look at how many of those FWMR brought.

We bring him like half a dozen newbies a year, if that. He gets that many on his own in one track day.

True we don't bring him a lot but still, at least put our name up on your slide on your powerpoint

It is a bit of a bummer we've been "dropped". At one time FWMR was a big part of RS. Terry did a good job of that. But as RS got bigger, Terry and other members that had strong contact with Dave left us, and the club has stayed rather small we've gonnen left by the wayside. Disappointing but understandable. That said, we really should be included on the list of forums allowed to watch. Problem is we don't keep ourselves in the attention of RS staff and we get forgotten about.

We have no way to count the people that go out because of the flyers we give to different shops and such things as that. I am not saying we bring a whole lot of people out but I can tell you that we as a club spend enough money with Ridesmart to get our name on the list of forums allowed to watch. It does not matter if it is from bringing new people or just keep going back with the same group of people.

You're missing the point--just say you're coming to watch me or Matt and they'll let you in.

They're doing all kinds of crazy restrictive rules for this one track day, probably all from COTA management. I'm not going to fault Dave or get my panties twisted because he didn't push to get some small-time forum that only brings people to half his track days to get access based on the forum name instead of the rider's name.

All 4 of those forums are listed on one of the last powerpoint slides in their Level 1 class.

I'm liking extreme motorsports track days more and more... Geared more for someone who has track experience in my mind since there's no class room time... But I've heard very good things from their events.
