Then get a 250 for the track. Cheap to buy, cheap to run.

If you're muscling the bike around, there's probably some technique that you can fix. It takes something like 5lbs of pressure on the hand grip to make the bike lean. Anything beyond that, I bet you're fighting yourself somewhere.Little Slim Shady wrote:DemonDuck wrote:That is more than I expected but not horrible. Re: MSRC 5/17 or 5/18?
Where I will feel the difference in the bikes is through a quick right/left/right like at TWS or through rattlesnake but tipping into a turn it just falls right it, it's getting it to stand back up then flip down the other side that makes me feel like I'm riding a pig sometimes. Practicing "knee to knee" really helps with that tho but getting the 250 to flip right to left and back through rattle stake was so much easier than the 750 but that probably comes down to the speed at which the bike changes angle (left, to upright to back down on the right) being perceived as "must work even harder"Rhino wrote:If you're muscling the bike around, there's probably some technique that you can fix. Re: MSRC 5/17 or 5/18?
The only 600 super sport I ever rode was a late 90's CBR600, and compared to the VFR750 I also rode that day, and my CBR1000, it was super "twitchy", but I'm sure it was just a matter of what you're used to. I'd think your 750 would be a pretty good track compromise, but then I don't know much about it. I'd think a Daytona 675R would be a good track bike, but I didn't see many 675s.fixxervi6 wrote:It may be hard to believe, but the difference between a 600 and a 750 in terms of flick-ability is noticeableLittle Slim Shady wrote:Hmmmmm

Re: MSRC 5/17 or 5/18?
Toy, I think the best approach to shopping for a track bike is by first identifying the goal: what is it that you're trying to achieve long-term? Are you just wanting to avoid crashing your street bike at the track? Do you want a bike that is the most fun to ride at the track? Do you want a bike that will teach you the most? Are you potentially considering track riding as a competition sport or just as an occasional past time to hone your skills and have fun with your buddies? Your answers to those questions can go a long way in narrowing down the list of potential track bikes. If you're just wanting to ride to have fun with your buddies, and you'd like to avoid the scenario that involves your street bike crashing at the track, then really any bike will do the job. Track riding is a blast on just about any motorcycle! Hell--I've even had the C-14 on the track a couple of times (even on the 1.3 course at MSR), and I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. Just pick whatever bike you like and roll with it.
If you're looking at track riding as a long-term endeavor or are even contemplating the possibility of roadracing, then you should definitely approach this with a bit of strategy and planning. There are many racers (myself included), who are convinced that starting small and then gradually increasing displacement size along with your growing skill set is an excellent formula to success in racing (not even just motorcycles, but motorsport in general). The Ninja EX-250R is simple and dirt-cheap platform that can be modified to become a pretty decent race bike. As with most motorcycles, the stock suspension is trash and the stock brakes aren't exactly the best, but once those aspects have been modified accordingly, those bikes are actually a blast at the track. I raced an EX-250R in '12 and '13, and while the ergonomics were difficult for me, it was blast and taught me a ton!
The EX-500s are trying to make a comeback as race bikes, but I would personally recommend the 650-twins (SV, 650R) over the 500s. The 650s have a huge track and racing following, and are essentially 250s with an engine. They are not easy to ride fast, but learning how to do it anyway will teach you lots of aspects that will easily translate to any other bike. As with 250s, tire wear is significantly lower than it is with inline-4s, and your chance of highsiding is significantly decreased, since they only have ~70 ponies.
Regardless which bike you decide to consider as a track bike, make sure that the suspension is either already upgraded (meaning aftermarket internals in the forks and an aftermarket shock), and that it is properly sprung for your weight. Otherwise, you should plan on getting that done right away. Suspension upgrades range from about ~$500-$2000 for entry-level setups, and you can go as high as your pockets are deep. Once the suspension is fixed, go to work on the brakes. Get stainless steel lines, high-quality pads, high-quality brake fluid, and an aftermarket master cylinder, and you'll be able to brake the way any bike should. After that, get some track fairings (once again, you get what you paid for), a good steering stabilizer (less important on a two-fiddy), and you're pretty much ready to roll.
If you do decide to go with an inline-4, I'd strongly recommend going no larger than a 600. Anything beyond that is going to impede your learning process, rather than enhance it.

That's exactly how I describe Telomere's 600, super twitchy, I don't care for them. The 750 is "easier" to ride imo but I wouldn't hesitate to take a 600 on as a track bike.LonestarCBR wrote:The only 600 super sport I ever rode was a late 90's CBR600, and compared to the VFR750 I also rode that day, and my CBR1000, it was super "twitchy", but I'm sure it was just a matter of what you're used to.
