CURRENT CHALLENGE
Your bike parked in front of a phone booth
DarcShadow wrote:Just curious, is that a working phone booth? I don't see a phone?
Please note that the word "working" does not appear in the challenge, nor does any requirement for a phone to be present. Simply that you have to be parked in front of a phone booth. Given that the one in my picture is quite clearly a phone booth (it's even labeled, "telephone"), I am quite confident of it's satisfaction of the posted challenge.

Oh yeah, wasn't questioning the challenge being met, just wondered if it was a working one.

Ah, in that case, no, it's not working, and there is no telephone present. It serves only as a semi-public hooking-up space ("don't worry honey, no one can see us in here"), and occasionally as a changing room for Clark Kent.

I know where a nold red British phone booth is, but it's more than an hr away. Slight chance I can get the pic in a week

Dude, this is Texas, and this is how booths are designed in Texas. I have never seen a gay California-clone-of-a-London-phone-booth in Texas.

Neither of those are booths as described in the original challenge. Double fail.

Maybe we need a further clarification of the exact definition being used for "booth"...

booth
noun \ˈbüth, especially British ˈbüth\

: a partially enclosed area or a small and usually temporary building where things are sold or displayed or services are provided

: a small area that is enclosed in order to provide privacy for one person

: an enclosed area for some kinds of workers that provides shelter and keeps them separated from the public

It seems to me that the middle definition was the original intent...and the man throwing down the challenge says he knows where one is. Hmmm, does he get to participate in the challenge???

Technically, the surrounding shroud around the phone provides privacy of the telephone call. It is a partially enclosed area and phone services there are provided.

I encourage you to go to Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phone_booth" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And scroll down at the various pictures, for example the "PUBLIC PHONE BOOTHS IN KASHMAR, IRAN"), or even the ones in Brazil.

So, you can argue the point all day long, but there are many instances where the term "Telephone Booth" simply means a public payphone in a small shroud, just like the one I took a pic of with my bike in front of. And it was working :-)

Arguing about technicalities makes you a dick. Actually finding a working payphone in something that could be called a booth and posting a picture of it makes you cool.

Quit being dicks and be cool. Arguing over stupid bullshit killed the last thread, and I swear to Christ I will kick people in the balls if they ruin this one.

Agreed. We're not out to keep score, this is supposed to be fun. When I have to bring along a lawyer just to do something fun it is no longer fun :-)
