Re: Powder Coating
I knew a guy that basically picked up a free oven on Freecycle (the stove part was broken), ran a 220 circuit next to his breaker box in the garage, then picked up a powdercoating sprayer to hook up to his air compressor from Northern Tools. He did all sorts of car parts. All in all he paid less than $200 for everything, and came out with some really quality work.

Re: Powder Coating
the HF kits are about $80. There's a craftsman unit that can be found on ebay for about $50, plus a nice sized toaster oven, ~$40, is the cheapest option I've found.

Re: Powder Coating
Maybe a stupid question. But what's wrong with a normal oven? I mean if you put down tin foil to protect it if anything drips

Re: Powder Coating
A powder coating gun is a pretty basic/simple thing so it's probably a decent deal for the price for small stuff.
From what I'm reading online the toxic fumes given off while baking the part can linger in the oven and "poison" food cooked in it at a later time. Not to mention you probably don't want the toxic fumes in your house either.
That being said, I have heard of people doing it, much to the dismay of their wives.

Re: Powder Coating
I will start looking for a cheap oven. I have a compressor so I will just need the gun then I will see what I can do. Now I need to research how to do it proper like. Maybe I will start with my rims.
