Re: TWS Roll Call - October 21st
Cool. With a trailer its been taking about 4 hours to get there. I'm good to leave anytime on Saturday, just let me know where you guys want to load up Rick's trailer.
The gates at TWS close at 10pm, but I figure we're going to get there long before then. There is a $10/person camping fee that we need to pay at the gate. Sometimes they also charge a drop-off fee ($15) for the trailer. Assuming that we get there early enough on Saturday, we should have no problem snatching up a bay. We can off-load our bikes and pick our bay, and we could even pitch our tents in that area.

Fixx....Thats ROCKIN!!!!! Sry I didnt get a call to ya yesterday, ended up busy with something else and flat forgot.
Do we want to meet at your place and load, you pick us up at each home place, or all meet at my place and leave from there?
Striple...you answered a couple o questions I had. Only other one I can think of now would be what are the hours of their concession stand?
Being strip puts it at 4 hrs travel, Im figurin we leave by 2 at the latest to put us in there by 6 to give us some daylight to setup camp and then maybe go grab a good meal before getting back and finishing up pit setup and just chillin before lights out.

Lets get up a list of supplies and who is bringing what, depending on that list, it might actually make more sense for me to come by and pick people up.Grinner wrote:Fixx....Thats ROCKIN!!!!! Sry I didnt get a call to ya yesterday, ended up busy with something else and flat forgot.

Their concession stand has been open during all of the events that I have attended there, and usually early enough to grab a coffee there in the morning. My guess is that they open around 8am or so, maybe even earlier.Grinner wrote:Only other one I can think of now would be what are the hours of their concession stand?

Don't forget the club banners, not sure who has them, but with several of the club going to TWS, which is not the norm, we should make sure, Dave, and other RS people know we're there.

Re: TWS Roll Call - October 21st
A couple of comments about TWS, since this track is new to you guys:
The track surface is pretty bad -- lots of patches and very bumpy in some areas. Think ECR, perhaps even a bit worse in some spots. That said, the traction is actually quite good, and its mostly a matter of finding the right line to deal with the bumps. As always, you're going to want to build up gradually throughout the day. Its late in the season, and many or most of the riders there will have ridden that track multiple times previously this year, so be cautious about ramping up too quickly. Since it is such a fast track, crashes there can be significant, and the run-off seems inconsistent with fun obstacles (ditches, walls, etc.) to overcome. TWS also has a tendency to attract track squids -- riders who are riding way over their heads -- so be vigilant about whose line you follow.
Pit-out is located at the entry of turn 1, the fastest turn of the track. There is a yellow blend line, and riders getting onto the track should stay to the inside of that blend line to allow other riders to pass them on the outside, while the inside rider is getting up to speed. Most of the turns are not terribly technical, just high-speed sweepers that are challenging mostly due to track conditions.
Turn 1 seems easy at low speeds, but nailing it at higher speeds can be a bit tricky. If you go too far to the in- or outside of that turn, you will hit some nasty bumps at lean. Staying reasonably close to the blend line is a good idea, just don't stay immediately on it. Turn 3 is not quite as fast as it may initially appear, so be prepared to do some heavy braking there. You will hit "wheelie hill" coming out of turn 3, so be ready for your front to get light. Another very hard braking zone is at the entry to turn 10.
This track makes most of the other Texas tracks seem slow, and is generally a blast to ride. Expect to go through some fuel -- I usually fill up at lunch. Fuel is available on site (~$4.50/gal, if I remember correctly). Other than that, let's be careful and have a blast. This track has the tendency to suck you in with its high speed turns, only to repay you with a moment of spiked adrenaline when you forget about the hard braking areas...
