They made parts 5years after they stopped the bike. It's not going to be hard to work on yourself matter of fact it will be much easier than our bikes.

Re: Who has experience riding a Buell at an intermediate pac
They stopped the bike Oct 30th 2009 so that means they will make parts for about another year. If it is really something that 84 wants bad enough to not worry about parts availability and such then he should just go ahead and get the bike. I am just trying to point out that right now before they even stopped making parts the parts are more expensive than the same parts for my BMW that you would expect to have high prices because its BMW.
I guess the real question is what do you want to use the bike for? Is it gonna be your every day bike? Is it going to be a track bike? Is it going to be an extra bike? I am really fond of Buell products because I love the idea of an American made sportbike.... If your going with an XB series then go with the XB12s which comes out to having about 3.82lbs/hp.

I believe that Harley said that they will support them for 10 years. And there is no such thing as an every day bike for me. I do club rides and track days. The Buell would be for club rides until, 6 months later, I tired of it and sold it for something else.

We had a couple ride with the club in the past. We haven't had any recently.Stardog84 wrote:I think that the prices will come down. I am hoping. We need a truly bitchin sbk from the states, although I myself don't really need one. Has anyone ever even seen a Buell on a club ride? Has anyone here ever owned one?
Yeah the Harley motored Buells have 5 speed transmissions and fall off on the top end. That much I do know. Not sure what the top speed is.
There won't be an American made superbike until the American manufacturers realize that v-twins aren't the way to go. That will never happen, though. For some reason they are stuck on this v-twin crap.

Not sure what my next bike is going to be. Really curious about just how capable the XB9s/XB12s is in the twisties.DemonDuck wrote:ROFL then buy it. Which one you wanting to buy?

Don't forget to test ride a Street Triple. Those things are fantastic for the street.

Both the XB9 and XB12 should be great in the twisties. I would go with the 12 for the extra power to weight ratio.

Re: Who has experience riding a Buell at an intermediate pac
I've riden the 1125R before on a 20 mile test ride, it was a great bike and handed very well. However, I didnt like the power curve. Dont get me wrong, it has power all over the place but just as you get into the good power in the upper rpms, you hit the red line, then it falls on its face. It left me wanting more rpm, I just never felt overall satisfied with the ride. Like having awesome sex but never busting a nut.

A Buell X-series is a Sportster engine. Easiest parts in the world to find.DemonDuck wrote:I would not do it because it is not going to be something you can get parts for easly. If it does break it will likely be more expensive than a Ducati to fix.

84, you wanna test ride a Speed Triple?
It won't hang with an 1198 in the straights, but I've proven it can corner faster than one*

Re: Who has experience riding a Buell at an intermediate pac
There use to be a guy in the club that rode one, or 5. Seemed like ever time you turned around he had traded one for another. Board name was BigBuell, he was down in Granbury and ran his own shop. Haven't heard anything from him in probably 5 years so don't know if he's still around or not. Name was Kelly. He ran the Buell at the track and did ok. He wasn't the fastest guy out there, although he thought he was, but he ran a pretty decent pace and it wasn't the bike that was holding him back.

Guy at work has a white 1125R that he is looking to sell. Not sure what he wants for it though. He just doesn't ride it much anymore since he got an FJR. He's more of an iron butt kinda guy.

The Street Triple is out. Looks like they run about $7k on the low end. Too rich for me. Rhino, yes I do.
The price on this one is getting warmer but probably still a thousand more than I want to spend on the next one. Yes, I am cheap. But damn this is a nice bike at $6k with 2k miles on it.

This one is friggin cool as hell though I do not see her being a cheap date by any stretch.
http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/mcy/3829050252.html
Flat out bitchin, but I am not sure that I will ever be happy with the highway pull. Freight train around town.

And again I am just dreaming. I have to do several motorcycle related things before I am in the market for my next skreet bike.

You know, I might have to give that some thought. But first I have to...
1) Acquire track bike
2) Set up track bike
3) Sell street bike
...so like I said I am just daydreaming right now.

S3 is my track bike. I've got the wheel stickers to prove it.
If I were you, I'd:
1. Buy Speed Triple
2. Ride GSXR on the track
Done.

Nah. Dream garage at the moment is a R1200RT and a Hayabusa. And maybe the Nomad. And a dirt bike. And maybe a trials bike. And a supermoto. And...fuck I need a few more jobs...
But seriously, why not just track your GSXR?

Re: Who has experience riding a Buell at an intermediate pac
I have been tracking the GSXR but taping it off all of the time is a pain in the ass, I am worried about an eventual low side shredding a beautiful street bike, and I want something with a whole crap load of money already poured in to the suspension. Something with a little bit less power so that I can really rag it out comfortably wouldn't hurt either. The 600 isn't a flat out rocket ship but when you crack the throttle all of the way open things start happening pretty rapidly. I will say that I am much more comfortable reaming it out on the track than I was a hand full of track days ago.

Oh I don't have an issue with that. Just with that much acceleration calculating roll off and braking points accurately and consistently is pretty challenging. For me at least.

For sure is. I have no doubt I'd be faster in the corners in a smaller bike. Can't afford both though!

A few notes about this.Stardog84 wrote:I have been tracking the GSXR but taping it off all of the time is a pain in the ass, I am worried about an eventual low side shredding a beautiful street bike, and I want something with a whole crap load of money already poured in to the suspension. 1. Suspension mods are not created equal. You not only need to find somebody who put the money into the suspension, you need to find somebody YOUR WEIGHT who put the money into the suspension, so it's valved properly. Have you talked with Roger yet about your options for an upgraded suspension, or whether you even need one? Gold parts are pretty, but my 2008 ZX-6R was actually able to be dialed in just right for me with zero upgrades, per Roger.
2. If it's your track bike, tape it once and leave it. When you crash and trash the plastics, get a race body kit.
3. You won't want less power in a few more track days when you get more comfortable. Unless you're seriously planning to become a racer, it's more fun to ride a supersport. If you *are* planning to become a racer, buy PoloKid's 250 and master the art of carrying corner speed before doing anything else. Take it from a guy who has ridden damn near everything on the track, a 600cc supersport is the best option for track days.
