Are the STOVL landing gears more heavy duty than the carrier version?

No, I don't think so. A VL should be no harsher than a conventional landing, might even be a softer touch down.

When I toured the plant from a visual perspective I don't remember noting a difference.

Ah, that touchdown looked pretty rough on the struts, they compressed pretty far in, but probably by design (I'm sure they didn't bottom out).

This one is dated 2011 but it's the test planes, not the production model.

Yeah, but it'd be nothing compaired to crashing, aka landing, on a carrier.

No the Navy version (CTOL) has the heavy duty landing gear.

What would you be if you were attached to another object by an incline plane, wrapped helicly around an axis?

U-Turn that vid you posted was for a Marine carrier (i.e. a Harrier ship), not a standard Navy Nimitz-class carrier that the CV model will be on.

I don't believe they've begun full F-35C carrier testing operations yet. I know I saw some videos of land-based tests, but haven't seen any actual traps or takeoffs on a carrier yet of that variant.

I think you'll find that the launch at 1:05 is cgi.

Yeah, I think you are correct but I thought I recalled hearing that they have done on carrier testing.

Last I remember was that they did carrier testing up in MD but it was on the ground and not an actual aboard an aircraft carrier launch yet.

The carrier testing was done in New Jersey at the Navy's training facility. The same as a carrier as far as the launch and arresting gear is concerned.
