Iridium visors?
I have an AGV K3 46 helmet and I'm looking at getting an Iridium blue or mirror visor for it. However, I do quite a bit of night riding. Are they too tinted to use at night? And which do you think would look better on my helmet? Mirror or blue?

Re: Iridium visors?
They are no darker than any other smoked shield, if you are in the city with lots of street lights you can see well enough, although it is technically illegal I believe. As for blue vs mirror, I'd not get either. I've had iridium visors in the past and the iridium part always flakes off eventually. Even faster if you use any thing other than water to clean them. Had one that flaked off baddly after just a few months, went back to the shop and they surpisingly gave me another, it lasted a bit longer but it too eventually started to flake off.
Honestly I think with the darkness of the overall helmit you have there, a dark smoked visor would look best, mirror would be my second choice for looking best.

Do they make such a thing as a visor protector like a screen protector for your phone to keep it from scratching?DarcShadow wrote:the iridium part always flakes off eventually. Re: Iridium visors?
Not that I know of, unless you count tear aways, don't think they're very pratical for every day use though. It's not the scratching that's the problem. The iridium coating just wears off.mokishea wrote:Do they make such a thing as a visor protector like a screen protector for your phone to keep it from scratching?DarcShadow wrote:the iridium part always flakes off eventually. My Suomy came with a clear iridium visor. It works great on the brightest days and I can see well at night also.

Re: Iridium visors?
I love it... Only problem is that it's about 90 bucks to replace it... And the film on the inside is starting to come off in a corner... Got the helmet in 08 and even though it was stored in the bag in the top of my closest for my non riding stint, it's time for a new lid..mokishea wrote:I've never seen the clear ones before, that's pretty interesting. Went to Bike Night with my mirrored visor. Could hardly see on the way home in the dark. Not for night riding.

I use my tented shield all the time.... but then it is a Transition shield so it is clear in the dark and tented during the day. Gotta love Bell.

Re: Iridium visors?
I ride with Arai. I have several helmets, and have smoke, blue/purple "iridium",and the newest silver mirrored. I like it best from a functional standpoint (filtering on bright days with good clarity), but all are good, and none of them are worth a crap at night. Arai also has a photo-chromatic shield out now but haven't tried it. And I'm sure it's pricey.
The color might be a fashion statement (what matches best) as much as anything else.
So I carry both clear safety glasses and a clear shield in a protective sleeve in my tank bag. The Arai's have a nifty quick-change if in a situation where I need to switch, otherwise I use the safety glasses if a shorter stint. No AGV experience, but yours is a sweet helmet.

I friggin HATE changing the shield on my Arai. If I ride somewhere during the day and have to ride back at night I grab a Shoei. Maybe some day you can show me how the Arai pushers whip the shield on and off so quickly.

Thanks lonestar. I like the mirror visor. They're really easy to swap out on my AGV so if I know it's going to be dark by the time I head out again I just stick my clear visor in my helmet bag in my tail pack.

My newer Icon helmet has an one that light enough to see at night. One thing is like others have said, the coating is scratching off. I have used just water and a soft wash cloth and it it has scratched off. I love the look but doesn't last long.
