Q3

Post by 111 » Mon Aug 12, 2013 11:54 am

I thought we had a Q2 thread already so I was going to post this in there, but I cannot find it. So I started a new thread for any of you interested in this tire.

http://feelthetrack.com/testing-program ... valuation/

EDIT: It appears this will be the first of several posts he does on this tire.

30psi is a good starting point for me. As the tire gets hot it will gain psi, depending on ambient temps you could go that low and gain a few psi heating up the tire and be back up in that 30psi range on a hot tire.

Mid-20s is well within pressure range for competition race tires. Most street tires are not designed to be run that hot.

I wonder if it is due to the carbon fiber in the walls, making the carcass stiffer

I have ran about 25 psi on Q2's. The Q3's I will have to look and see what I ended up running but I think it was around 24 psi.

Yea even talked with the Dunlop guy. He said 30 is where it's at. Before I talked with him I would run 31

I just put on a fresh set. I'm planning on running 30, possibly 29.

The Dunlop guy said 30 for me as well but I think it is more of a blanket pressure. Shaun is the one that told me to go down more on the pressure after looking at the wear on the tire. That is where I get the 24-26 psi from.

I ran the q3's at 28 psi in the morning, they heated up past 30, dropped them back down to 30 and ran the rest of the day without any problems, super sticky, love these tires.

I'll take a guess at this (yep, I'm guessing)

area to the left is normal track booger's, the strip to the right of that is where your getting on the gas.

Looks like even wear, did you get your suspension dialed in at the track?

I think I read today where the carbon fiber is a relatively narrow band right at the bead, barely extending above the wheel lip. I've always ran Sportmaxes on my CBR, but the Metzler Race-Tec K3s that came on the Triumph are very sticky, and I'll get the least miles out of them I've ever gotten from any tire as a result. Very confidence inspiring for me. I'd stay with them if I could afford to change every 2500-3000. Q3s will likely be my next.
