I was just about to post about this.
Sena Users,

Thank you for using Sena products.

We are pleased to announce the release of the version 5.0 firmware of the SMH10 with major enhancements in functions and features such as Universal Intercom and Advanced Noise Control™.

- Universal Intercom: You can have an intercom conversation with non-Sena Bluetooth headsets using the Universal Intercom™ function.

- Advanced Noise Control™: It is equipped with wind noise suppression and intelligent Noise Gate in the intercom to limit the interference of wind noise and background noise while riding.

- Sidetone: If this feature is enabled, you can hear what you are speaking during an intercom conversation or a phone call.

You can upgrade your firmware using the new Device Manager v1.4.4 for Windows and v1.9.4 for Mac users.

Please be sure to register your product online in order to download the new Manager software, since free upgrade service is provided only to the registered users. For more details, please visit Sena web site at http://www.SenaBluetooth.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
I'll upgrade mine as soon as I can.

Well crap, one of them upgraded just fine. The second one hung at 90% and won't progress. After 3 hours I unplugged it, rebooted my machine, tried again. 90% and it hangs. Tried downgrading, it too gets to 90% and hangs. I opened a ticket with Sena... has anyone else run into something like this? It's not the software or my PC because my first Sena upgraded fine.

I ended up figuring it out before Sena even got back to me. I ended up using a different USB port on my machine. Thought I had bricked the comm, when I hooked it back up it said firmware version 0.0. But, with a different USB port it loaded just fine. So, if you run into a similar issue, you can try that!

Turn it on. It will flash a number of times to let you know how full the battery is. I think 4 times is full.

They have a 'Universal Bluetooth Pairing' feature now, not sure if that's what it is designed for?

Yeah, that's why I said I'm guessing no. The manual says it uses the Bluetooth headset protocols. Although I guess you might be able to pair the Scala as if it was connecting to a phone and connect it to the sena that way. I suspect your distance will be limited to only a few meters, if that.

I tried doing this today and had the same problem as Firewall but swapping USB ports doesnt help. Has anyone else found a solution to this issue?

I rebooted my machine, then changed USB ports, that seemed to do the trick, not sure if it was a combo of doing both of that?

Just received another update notification today, not sure if it differs any for either version of software from the original post. I think the 2.0 for the SMH5 series may be new, but not certain. And this new release adds the "R" designation for the SMH10.

Kind of. John kept dropping out, and you'd get that static sound like when someone goes out of range before he fell off, even though he was in the middle of the pack and Jim and I could hear each other just fine at the front and back. I don't think they officially upped the limit, I think there's some weird case where you can get it to kind of work.
