Daytona Power Station V1
So I've had a successful day today. Got the first mockup of my desired "accessory power" mount rigged up. I wanted to mount some power to the front of my bike for the phone and what not, but I'm severely limited on space.
I bought some thin sheet aluminum for my local HD some time ago and finally got time to work on it.
I'm pleased with V1, but there is still some room for improvement. In addition to both plugs you see (1 will be a split 5v 2amp USB plug), I was also going to add a small lit rocker switch and a fuse for protection. Thus why it's so large.
So I'm looking for some suggestions.
The only issue I'm not sure how to fix in V2 is its flimsiness. It's really bad. I "rolled" the top edge with a table edge and a hammer, but it's still bad. And it won't hold shape well.
I'm going to run to the hardware store in a bit to see what other solutions may be sitting on a shelf, but anyone have any good ideas on how to stiffen the metal?

tig aluminum beads in a crisscross pattern on the backside or something similar, or use ticker metal

We can machine most anything at work. If you come up with a general concept/shape I can get you a first class aluminum (or whatever) piece made.

Hmmm. I may take you up on that. I just got the materials for V2. I think I'm going to use angle bar and 3 sheets of aluminum .025" riveted together and see how it like that.

Re: Daytona Power Station V1
If it were me doing it, I think I would take advantage of the holes in my triple. I would think you could find some aluminum plate, cut it to fit the holes, and angle the bottom edges so it sits flush. But I guess that solution depends on how much room you actually need. The plates could be held in place with epoxy or by drilling two holes on each side of the plate connecting to another plate on the bottom. Basically sandwiching the triple clamp in between....but that's just what I would do. That solution would also be totally removable when you sold the bike leaving no evidence of a modification at all.

Kind of like having a friend with a boat, isn't it. Let's him figure out all of the custom mods, then you simply implement them on your bike.
AND, they all should simply transfer right over to your new 675R when you buy it. Sweet!

Thought about it. Not enough space. I also want it easily removable. Mounting it in those wasn't going to allow for that. They are not as big as they look.nitzer wrote:If it were me doing it, I think I would take advantage of the holes in my triple. Will do. Ordered all the electrical parts last night. Should have enough bracket material to make another complete one. Make up the bracket, install your own electrical.LonestarCBR wrote:Kind of like having a friend with a boat, isn't it. Hoping to finish the bracket this week, and installed next weekend.

Re: Daytona Power Station V1
What all do you plan on powering off of that, I don't care for the cigarette lighter plugs on bikes, shit vibrates out and even the sealed ones corrode over time.

You can use one of those type of plugs that uses a marine locking type plug to get around the vibration issue. Those plugs also state the have drain holes if they do get wet. Just a thought.

I'm hard wired now so not an issue for me.
I ran the plugs under the seat so no issues with direct water but there was still enough moisture to cause corrosion.

The VFR came with a "Wire my bike" fuse block so I have plenty of connections if I need to hardwire anything: http://www.wiremybike.com/vfr-specific- ... p-269.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Daytona Power Station V1
Right now, just my phone. In the future, a radar and possibly standalone gps. I got a new mount for that as well. I'm using Marine rated plugs. 1 generic cigarette style and one dual USB style. Not planning on riding through serious rain. More for the occilaisonal drizzle and wash.
Thought about direct, but then with all the plug types, makes it a lot of work to change in the future.

You must have a different idea of direct wiring than I do. I'm curious to see it. When is it going to be back to the house?

I've got one sort of like this for bike applications, but I like the way yours seals better.
