Re: New Honda
When did new models become so secretive? It's not like they are on an 8 year refresh cycle and someone surprise the world after 5 years.. .

To me they've always been secretive when something new is on the horizon......especially Honda, and maybe BMW.JTChiTown wrote:When did new models become so secretive? It's not like they are on an 8 year refresh cycle and someone surprise the world after 5 years.. .
Didn't you just buy one? Didn't Toy just buy one. Didn't Rick just buy two? Not to mention all of the top-shelf 675/675Rs we seem to have these days. Don't the rest of us wish we had any one of them (rhetorical).dufremle wrote:There's no money in it anymore
I think you guys have been asleep...in the hyperbike arena alone in the past few years...BMW, Ducati, Aprilia, Yamaha, Kawasaki and even Triumph to a degree (new S3) have been bringing some heavy artillery and/or over-the-top electronics to the table, with only Suzuki and Honda lagging, and now both of those have new bikes launching. And don't even get me started on the ADV segment.
Recessions do that (stagnate just about everything)...and recession be damned now. I like it!

Booooo. Says "Will stay as an inline-four, with no V4 sports bike until at least 2020."

Re: New Honda
I've always thought there has to be some reason why Honda won't offer up the V4 in a hyperbike. They took a stab at it in the mid-80's of course, with limited commercial success. The Interceptor series were (are) great bikes, but not on the hyperbike level of course. I don't know what it is, but there is a reason for the in-line four...just like there was a reason for BMW to use the I4 for theirs.

Re: New Honda
Well, that was my first thought, but Aprilia is pulling it off, and at a lesser price than BMW, unless you throw the "factory" into the mix. I just figured there might be some complexity issues, wasn't sure if center of gravity might play into it (Honda focuses on this as much or more than anyone), maybe cooling the back cylinders. Just uneducated guessing on my part.
At any rate, I'd love to see Honda bring something out that shakes up the pecking order...just to know they are back in the game. I still really like CBRs when I look at them.

Re: New Honda
Honda also has a lot of internal rules when it comes to what they can do. I remember reading about it when they came out with the Fury. They had to get approval to change some rules in order to get some of the design elements allowed.
They might be fighting some of the same issues with a powerful V4 engine.
