520 conversation from 530 on a liter bike
Anyone have any experience with putting a 520 chain and sprocket set on a liter bike??? Are the benefits worth it?

I say no, simply because while yes there is a pretty good difference in rotating mass, a 520 doesn't hold up as well as a 525 so unless your running against the clock, no real benefit for us street punks.
I changed the 600 over from a 525 to a 520 simply because it's a 600 and it could use any help it could get and it isn't as hard on chains - no perceived difference by the butt dyno, that is including using aluminum sprockets which DO NOT hold up as long.

Never done it, but from what I've read the 520s are lighter but also wear faster so unless you're going for every ounce savings you can get there's not much point in putting a 520 chain on a street bike. Again, this is only what I've read online from various forums, so who knows if the the info is actually accurate.

I honestly have to side with Fixxer. Its not something we are going to notice on the street unless we are actually racing. That said I believe I went to 520 on the BMW but I will have to look to be sure (stupid cold weather state) lol.

Thanks for the info, thus far I have resisted the past temptations to test a 520 chain on the CBR1000rr and was wondering just if others had made the change.DarcShadow wrote:Never done it, but from what I've read the 520s are lighter but also wear faster so unless you're going for every ounce savings you can get there's not much point in putting a 520 chain on a street bike. I forgot to look last night... If I can remember I will take a look at what I have on the bike now. Whatever it is seems to be doing just fine.

Ok so I did go to a 520 on my bike. I also went -1 +2. I went with an AFAM rear sprocket and I think the 3D chain.

I can see where the S1000 would need a -1/+2, being down on power it could use the help

Trying hard to drum up that competition aren't you?fixxervi6 wrote:I can see where the S1000 would need a -1/+2, being down on power it could use the help
Honestly I did that because I figured I don't see the top of the limiter often and even with the -1/+2 I think I can hit it still. Plus when the rider weighs as much as the bike ... the bike can use all the help it can get.
