Also, I have a drone on the way, I think there is some serious video potential in some of those spots.

Sam, if you want to go last, that's ok. If the VStrom can negotiate it, you should be fine.

Rick, can you confirm the dates? The OP says leave for home on the 25th and your post on March 6th said stay until the 26th.

crap, I can't remember, I'll have to look at my reservation - either way I wasn't planing on riding on Sat, I think my thought was leave Friday night, get in late Saturday, that gives me Sunday to unpack etc.JeffStrom wrote:Rick, can you confirm the dates? Sam,
What are your reservation dates?
Also, I can't remember, do you have a communicator of some sort? If so what is it?

My reservation says it's through Thursday night, departing Friday. I picked up a used Scala packtalk.

Updated to 4.0. For 4.0 they changed the app. It seems to be a different app you have to download (Cardo Connect) as opposed to just updating the existing app (Cardo SmartSet).

Re: Kinda what I'm thinking about - DP trip
My pactalk is updated. What tools are you all bringing?
Right now, I just have front/rear inner tubes, chain decreased/lube, duct tape, and a small pouch of tools that came with the KLR. Anything I need to grab?

Re: Kinda what I'm thinking about - DP trip
I plan on bringing a full tool kit, wrenches, zip ties, spoons, bead locks etc etc. I'm also going to bring some MRE's, we need to consider "food on the road" beyond just snacks, many of the rides put us out ALL day so we'll be eating out on the road.SputnikSam wrote:My pactalk is updated. I don't know what all you have or Jeff has but I have the following that I can contribute to "base camp"
EZ up - it's not fancy but it's fairly new and it works
Tables - I have two fold up tables that are great for staging like, food and crap places to cook etc.
Gas latern
Camping chairs - I seriously half like 8 or some shit, I don't know why or how
Portable stove
Portable grill
tent heater (I won't be needing it but I have one if yall want to use it)
SPOT me sat communicator - if yall want me to add people to the "check in" message I need their info in PM, name, e-mail, phone number if you want them to get texts, I'll PM back the map link so they can track us real time, we also need to swap emergency contact info
I'll bring my camel back - I recommend yall do the same, I'll also haul a dromedary of water - it'll be nasty and piss warm but if you need it, better that then nothing
I'm probably not going to haul extra fuel, well I dunno I may but I haven't decided yet

That's not really an optional item, it's like water, I'm not going to list it cause you can't go without it.dufremle wrote:Don't forget toilet paper

I figured I'd pick it up sometime during the day Friday since it isnt a work day for me. I could get it earlier if you want it out of the way.

Re: Kinda what I'm thinking about - DP trip
I'll have a first aid kid
I have a backpacking stove (could bring on bike)
I'll have my own camping chair
I won't need the tent heater
I'll take a Camelbak plus some additional water
I'll take a water filter that can be used to fill containers (slowly), don't expect to use, but there if needed
I have a hand operated bicycle size tire pump, very compact, but would take forever if we actually have to use it
Right now the weather doesn't look so bad, predicted to be warmer than average for this time of year, of course subject to change. Showing partly cloudy and highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid 40s. Except for Tuesday which shows potential for rain. I also note that the UV index is extreme most of the week, made worse by altitude.

Re: Kinda what I'm thinking about - DP trip
I may take you up on that tent heater. My sleeping bag should be good for 50 degrees at night, but it'll be nice just in case. I also have first aid kit, fold out basic mesh chair, small butane gas stove... should I bring those just in case, or do you all have that covered?

Re: Kinda what I'm thinking about - DP trip
Sounds like stoves are covered. Not sure how big Rick's stove and grill are, can load it when I get the trailer. I don't know how the tent heater works, but the web site doesn't specify 110v power at the tent sites, maybe it's there and I missed it. I don't know what Rick's chairs are like, but I'm bringing my own. It doesn't hurt to bring your first aid kit, you may end up having the thing we need that I don't have.

Re: Kinda what I'm thinking about - DP trip
Yeah, they don't have 110v power at the tent sites, only USB charging.

Tent heater uses gas and battery - yes it's save for a tent that is what its specifically built for

You guys are going to have a blast! Turns out I will be Water Skiing on that lake you see in the video (Powell) in Sept and may throw a KLR in the Back of the Ridgeline and follow your lead. I have a week off but now I think I may extend a few more days while I am there and see some of the sights. I don't know about Spooky Canyon, makes me claustrophobic just watching other people squeezing through. Play it safe and take some Vaseline!

It does sound like you need another bike. Or you could put knobbies on the CBR.Tooner wrote:... may throw a KLR in the Back of the Ridgeline
On second thought it might be better to get a lighting kit and plates for the CRF.
