BT016 reviews?

Post by vagrant » Mon Dec 22, 2008 4:45 pm

So....any of you jokers tried the BT016 yet? I missed out on an awesome sale the local Cycle Gear was having on em, but still think they might be a good "season opener" set. Hopefully my 2ct's last until the weather gets nice enough to start the trackdays up again.

I had to stop riding last Thursday as the snow started to stick. There's ~1.5ft of snow outside the office door this morning.

BT016's came on my ZX-10R. They were ok, not as good of a grip as the 2CT's, but not bad. The center didn't wear as well as I'd have liked, they are already table-topped and within 200 miles of needing replacement... and only 2600 miles :( I used to get at least 3500 on the 2CT's (when I didn't get nails in the damned things).

From what I understand, the 016s that came stock on the 08zx10 are not the same as the aftermarket ones. That has been the case with a whole bunch of BT tyres over the last few years.

Doesn't really shock me at all, I'm planning on replacing the tires with 2CT's and seeing how the beast does with those.

I have to say, I am very happy with the way the 2ct's worked out on my bike (250miles per week commute, 1 trackday per month-ish).

If I want to get more serious about my laptimes I'm going to have to upgrade though. Its just that the Super Corsas wear out so fast...

I got 8600 out of my 2ct's with 1 trip to the dragon, 1 track day and really agressive riding. On the Dragon I ran 36 front and 40 rear (cause I forgot to let air out cause I was so excited being there) and I stuck like glue. I was really impressed, I tried Corrsa 3's and did not like them cause they were to picky on the pressure and proper heating up.

But the pro's all state they really like Bridgestone's so its a toss up.

Hey Vagrant, you should pick up a set of race tires to play with at the track. My confidence went through the roof with my Dunlop D211's. They are DOT legal (Superstock req's). They aren't even full slicks, but might as well be. I was grinding my peg at full lean and never once felt the tires trying to walk out on me.

One thing that blew my mind about 'sticky' tires, was actually touching a sticky tire after a session / race. It literally feels like the adhesive on duct tape when it's hot. I've 'balled up' 2CT's, and they get nice and warm and soft and rubbery... but never sticky.

ya but that means tyre warmers. maybe I'll buy someone's takeoff's and fork out the dough to get em swapped at the track and swapped back after the track. race tyres dont heat up very well on the street anywhere - let alone up north here.

I have a set waiting to install when I get in from offshore. Will post up when I check em out.
