Time for new tires

Post by fireblade » Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:00 am

it was probably time for new tires a month or so ago but as I am on a budget I'm trying to get as many miles out of them as possible. I want to hear some suggestions for a long lasting tire(as far as sportbikes go). I've got the 2CT's on there now and I think they've lasted a while. I had 8000 on it when put them on and now I've got a little over 19000 on it now. I think I've done ok on getting a few miles out of them.

What would you be if you were attached to another object by an incline plane, wrapped helicly around an axis?

Holy moly. I think that must be some kind of record. 11k out of a set of 2CTs?!?!?

As for being on a budget, it's hard to beat cyclegear when they do their Pirelli Diablo sales... F&R for $180 (for a set with a 180 rear... I think $190 for a 190 rear). I still have a brand-new rear in the garage waiting to get mounted for this coming track season...

depending on riding style, I get about 4000 - 8000 miles on a rear 2CT and about 10000 - 15000 on the front.

I agree with sckego, ask Cycle Gear when there next tire sale will be. These are some of the best deals you can get on tires. Getting the milage for your dollar and getting decent performance tires is like having your cake and getting to eat it also

Most of my riding is done on the highway, to and from work and back and forth to OKC. I'm open to another brand of tire too, I dont have to stick with the 2ct's but they've proven to me they will last a while with all the riding. I'll check out the pirelli's and see what they are like.

if most of your riding is non agressive, I would suggest looking for sport/touring tires or sport tires with a harder compound

these classifications of tires will give you substantially more miles per tire and are cheaper that high performance sport/race tires, but at the cost of performance

Well, I'd like to step it up a bit this year by doing some track days here and there, just to know my bike better and learn to ride right.

kegan, how long will those Pirellis last you as far as mileage goes? If I can get them on sale for that cheap then buying a couple sets a year wont be that bad.

I usually get around 5-6k out of a Diablo rear, as opposed to 10k or more from a sport-touring tire like a Metzler Z6. However, if you're getting 10k from a 2CT, you'll probably see about the same for a Diablo.

If you're getting 10k miles out of a 2CT, you're doing it wrong :-)

that does not mean you are using it wrong, just means that you are riding conservativly and not riding in a way to take advantage of the performance that you were paying for.

have some battlax bt002's on mine now, the race version. I need a new set this summer probably and will be looking into getting the bt002RS which is a street and occasional trackday tire. have nothing but good things to say about these tires and so does any of my buddies that have taken it for a ride around some corners. i actually managed to scrape a toe slider on some backroads several times last summer! Definately a confidence inspiring tire IMO

heres a review a person wrote vs pilots

Rockwall Honda is doing Employee pricing on all tires. Cycle Gear will price match so call Rockwall and get the price then head into Cycle Gear.

I read good things about them. I plan to give them a try next time I can afford to.

Dude...just stick with the Pilot Roads...perfect all around tire in my opinion...
They freaked me out the other day...I accidentally brought her front up off the ground on wet pavement with my Roads...which was something I was soooo not expecting.
