Monday, 5/25, Memorial Day Ride

Post by sckego » Fri May 22, 2009 2:17 pm

Currently showing a 30% chance of thundershowers for Monday, so keep an eye on that. Subject to cancellation if the weather gets wonky.

Meetup: 8 AM, Sonic in White Settlement. Kickstands up and tires rolling at 8:30AM.

Pace: Intermeoderate. Faster then a moderate, not as crazy as some of the intermediates I've been one.

Where: Not east. East is boring and sucky, there's nothing that way but Dallas. Everything else is cool, though.

Length: A bit over 300 miles; this is an all-day gig. Might even do an early dinner somewhere (Ranchman's in Ponder?) if the group feels up for it. However, there are numerous exit points back to DFW if you need to head back early.

Post up if interested.

90 miles between fuel stops OK? Or do we need to stop more often?

That's good. I can usually get 110 miles before the fuel light comes on if I am riding hard. Otherwise a lot more.

No plans yet that I know of. Sounds like fun. I'll check with the boss and let you know tomorrow.

REMINDER: This is NOT a Moderate ride. You'll be expected to be able to handle your bike and your ego. :-)

If the weather looks like it will hold, I'll be in on this. Will need to head back to town mid-afternoon if that will fit into the ride plan.

Weather holding at 30% chance of scattered T-storms... I'm good with those odds. See you guys tomorrow at Sonic! Mike, heading back early isn't a problem; like I said, lots of exit routes back to the city.

Fun ride today! There were only four of us that showed--Mike, Jim, G2, and myself--but that made it a bit easier to keep track of everyone. Mike, sucks that you had to split off early, as there were some fun roads up north of 82. Finally broke the ton-and-a-half mark at Indian Bridge... :D Anyway, beautiful ride, not a drop of rain, no incidents, no tickets, just 350 miles of fun. Hope everyone made it back safely. Catch you all later.

It was a blast. Image

Nice doing the intermediate with a smaller group - not at much wip at the tail - and I could almost always see the ride leader.

Thanks for leading, Kegan. Sure got hot by the time I got through Ft Worth. Sure was glad when it dropped a few degrees as I approached home. Was that your first time at a buck fifty?

No prob, it was a great time. :D It was a bit warm... think of it as training for what it's going to be like 2 months from now! And yes, that was my first time at 150... came close last time I was up there, this time I just kept it pinned for a bit longer and saw 153 before shutting down. Nice and rock solid... and we weren't even at the bridge yet when we slowed down. That straightaway is looong. Now where can I find another 60 horsepower...

BTW, here is the route if anyone is curious.

Great ride Kegan. You actually went a bit faster then me. I hit 150 just before I reached the bridge. Then decided that that was fast enough, considering I was in jeans and a mesh jacket.

Man, sounds like you all had a blast. Wish I could have been there, but I was out at red river with 3 of my friends and my brother.

Had a great time out there except I managed to wipe out pretty bad and bust my clutch lever while I was about 5 miles away from camp. Once I got over all the pain, it was a lot of fun trying to take off again. Basically my friend came over and held down the clutch lever while I revved up my bike, and he dropped it as I took off in first.

I was very happy that I didn't severely hurt myself, because the only thought running through my mind as I flew over my handlebars was that I was going to break a bone, which would mean no riding at the track on Sunday =(

But, I guess I got lucky =) If anyone is curious I can explain in more detail on bike night. See y'all there

Glad you got out of your off ok. For future reference, when you end up with a broken clutch lever or snapped cable, get the bike started in neutral with you on it, and walk it forward as fast as you can, and pop it down to first. As long as you're walking at idle speed, it'll bump right in and you can get to wherever you're going by clutchless shifting. If you need to stop just get it back to neutral... the crappy part is doing the waddle-bump-to-idle-start at stoplights.

DAMN IT, NEIL! Don't you MISS this track day! :-o I want my Meatball participating.

Sorry to hear about your go down, but you're still young ... doesn't hurt as bad at it does when *I* do it. If you need parts, post up and see if anyone has some in their garage.
