ECR this weekend.
Hey folks, is anyone doing the Ridesmart day at ECR this sunday?
Looks like I'll be there to ride for a few sessions and to help Dave out testing some new training technologies.

I'm not going to be there. But interested in what he's testing. I may ride out, to watch for a bit.

Wasn't planning on it, since I'm doing the twofer in a couple weeks. Three trackdays in one month is tough to justify to SWMBO...

Re: ECR this weekend.
This is totally unexpected for me too. I actually made plans to go dirtbike riding on sunday.
Dave and I have been talking about a bunch of new ideas for training. I was an MSF instructor in California for many years so we've been discussing the MSF method and how it relates to the Ridesmart method.
We are also looking into incorporating some high tech training aids like data logging and onboard video. There are so many new technologies available, all it takes is a little ingenuity and students get a lot more bang for their buck.

Re: ECR this weekend.
Well it was a fun day even if it was a little lonely. I pitted next to a rider on an RSV1000. He ruined his day with a crash. At least it wasnt as bad as my first day at Cresson.
I actually had a weird off-track incident myself two sessions after lunch when a bee found its way inside my suit and stung me on the chest as i was going through Turn6. I pulled off the track to check what happened. An instructor pulled up right after I did and was even able to see the stinger still in my chest. I checked in with the paramedics and they said it was a bad idea to keep riding so i packed up early.
I managed to get 2 different data loggers working. Heres a 3d plot of my speed around the track:
Hard to make out much this way. The 2d display is easier to read.
Heres a plot of my speed out of pit lane and through turn 6:
This is the other logger that runs on my PalmOS smartphone. It shows only speed data and cant be expanded like the first system:
I can zoom in on this map and see my lap times and speed anywhere on the track in increments of 1/5th of a second. Handy to have when you want to compare changes in suspension settings, gearing, engine tuning or even body position.
Next up is a brake lever pressure sensor displaying on a GoPro video.
Fun stuff.

That is some cool data. That is the type of data that I would like to get at some point. I would like to find out what equipment he is using to get that.

Re: ECR this weekend.
The first readout is from a data logger designed for aircraft. I use it to test and monitor a new VTOL UAV I designed. Its not very practical for this application as the sensors cost more than my bike - thats why I'm in the process of making some linear potentiometers to measure suspension travel and I'm also making a brake lever pressure sensor.
The second display comes from a PalmOS application that can be downloaded here:
http://gps-laptimer.de/
It has an iPhone version but no mention of a droid app.
There's another similar system that's free which runs on a bunch of different smartphones:
http://www.racechrono.com/download/
This still requires a high speed GPS sensor like the one i have that runs over 5Hz.
I was also able to import my GPS data into Google Earth but the results were not very impressive:
Notice the 20mph value right between the 69mph and 95mph values.
