This is sad. Although it could be they are doing it so no one else can do it, that could be a good thing I guess.

Disney Profiting off Osama Bin Laden's Death?

After Osama bin Laden's death, Disney is looking to capitalize by trademarking the name of the SEAL unit that killed the late terrorist leader. Three trademark applications by the Walt Disney Company have been found, filed in early May after bin Laden's death, to try to secure rights to "SEAL Team 6."

The trademarks cover "toys, games, and playthings," "clothing, footwear, and headwear," and "entertainment and education services."

This is an absolutely disgusting attempt to cash in by Disney. Incredibly inappropriate and crass—they're trying to piggy-back on the bravery of the service men who killed Osama bin Laden to line their own pockets. The worst part of this is that with Disney's lawyers being as well versed in trademark and copyright law as they are, they'll probably get away with this; you don't make three separate trademark applications if you're just swinging in the dark. Of course, considering how much money they've thrown at the government to swing copyright law their way in the past (if you need proof, look at the Mickey Mouse Protection Act, a bill that Disney lobbied to have passed in 1998 that extends copyrights to a ludicrously long 95 years after publication), the US government probably hasn't even noticed the latest vulgar attempt from Disney.

Hah, this isn't suprising. Disney has been doing all it can to really piss off Al Qaeda. So much so that Disneyland and Disneyworld are the only non-government-related active no-fly zones in the US. You can bet this is directly related to threats from either Al Qaeda themselves or other terrorist organizations.

I'd almost bet Disney won't make anything product but will get paid big from video games such as Call of Duty and games of the sort. And that's assuming the get the aplication approved.

And doing it to piss of terriost or not, it seems like a pretty bad PR move.

Honestly does not bother me at all. What they do with it later might bother me depending on the movie or whatever it is but the trademark rights does not affect me in any way.
