For the Bird, I like the M3's. They hold the pavement well and last for a while.

Track days with RideSmart ... learned a lot, but still not ready to go for a license.

Smooth cornering through approach speed and correct positioning. Comfort doing that with other bikes within arms reach.

Right now, Dunlop Qualifiers. Since the R6 is my first sportbike (have had several cruisers and dirtbikes) I can't say that I prefer them... but I've usually had dunlops in one form or another on most of my bikes. They seem to be decent, but I will probably try the M3's for my next set... maybe I'll see what all the fuss is about.

2) Have you ever gone to a track school?

Never.

3) What skills has or can Ridesmart Schools help you with?

A. Teach an old dog new tricks (been riding bikes since I was 10, I'm 30 now)

B. Teach me how to not die. (cause dying would kinda suck)

C. Hopefully teach me what I can and can't do with a corner.

Due to your careful negotiations and luck, I was able to experience the new track in decatur, and it was my first time. I noted that I had a metric assload of things to learn, mostly dealing with cornering. How far can I lean at what speed, in what type of turn? How do I compensate if I miss my line? How do I compensate if I can't see my line?

On that track, the blinds really messed with me, and I knew I was coming into them way too hot, so 1) I missed my line 2) I had to ride my brake to make the turn at the expense of control 3) I had uneven throttle due to all the correcting, which affected my control 4) I wasn't puckered, but my mind was contemplating the what-ifs. 5) I didn't want to die cause dying would suck.

Also, dealing with other riders would be a nice thing to learn too... while it wasnt that big of a deal at decatur, I kept worrying where I was in relation to everyone else, because I didn't want to kill anyone. As such, I felt kind of like a drunk, because I'm trying not to die, trying to find my line, missing my line, and swerving all over the place. The straights were pure bliss though... it was just the really sharp turn at the end of it.

SO... with all that said, I would feel better about dying if I had some instruction on how to go about it properly.

I believe most racers will tell you not to worry about the other riders. It's good to have some situational awareness but if they are behind you, don't worry about them. It's the responsibility of the trailing bike to not hit the lead bike and pass safely. That being said, you can't get freaked out when they come screaming past you either. Ride your line and let those behind you worry about passing.

Does level 1 & 2 ridesmart count? If so, yes!

3) What skills has or can Ridesmart Schools help you with?
Ridesmart has most certainly taught me a lot about following proper lines, braking, and throttle control. Caution for surface conditions when it's colder (which translates to the street as well). Through those instructions, and practice on the track, I've become faster, but more importantly, more confident. That confidence has translated onto the street, which overall improves my riding experience with the club and on my own.

As far as what Ridesmart Schools can help me with, I'm at the point now that I need instruction from Ridesmart's level 3 course with Ty Howard, to get tips and techniques from a pro, and someone that can watch video of a session with me, and tell me what I'm doing wrong, or not doing. While level 1 and 2 instruction is great, I think level 3 is going to give a bit more personal 1-on-1 attention that I'm now to the point of needing, as I continue to get faster on (and off) the track.

Pilot Powers....I even got 5 track days out of them...not bad for street tires!

I have learned corner entry speeds, throttle control, how to be smoooooth.....I even won smooth rider. I guess I learned alot!

I'm liking the M3's for the street. Fair amount of grip and can good milage out of them.

Yes, Went to the Keith Code California Superbike School at MSR in 2002 and RideSmart levels 1 and 2 a couple of times. No offence to RideSmart, for the cost it's great, but there's no compairison to the Keith Code school, granted it was a hell of a lot more expensive, but there were only 2 students per instructor. It was a great setup and since it was my first time at the track it was simply amazing!

As for skills the RideSmart school can help with, I typically ride in Level 4 now that is not technically a school. But I continue to work on and improve my lines, throttle control, smoothness and all the other basics.

Ridesmart - Level 1; Level 2; Level 3 -Ty Howard; CMRA license school

3) What skills has or can Ridesmart Schools help you with?
For me, I think the single most thing that Ridesmart has provided for me is the opportunity to ride on a racetrack. From there, you learn basic skills necessary for survival on the track, ie: safest entry/exit lines; braking; throttle control. This gave me a good starting point. From there, taking the Ty Howard racing school gave me the next level of track experience. Going with the less "conservative lines" was a huge help for me. At that time, I had a problem visualizing the most optimum line at speed. Like Darc Shadow, I currently run in Level 4, which I continue to learn from "doing" and from watching other racers.

Ones with a good combination of grip and lifespan, a decent amount of tread left, and no damage/punctures (: Pilot Roads fit the bill for me, though I'll probably try Powers next time.

2) Have you ever gone to a track school?
Nope. Hopefully I'll be doing a Ridesmart Level 1 soon... like maybe in 2 weeks...

3) What skills has or can Ridesmart Schools help you with?
I'm not sure, but I'm going to guess just about everything that has to do with riding technique... cornering, braking, body positioning, awareness, etc...
