So, I need to fix my bike up
So, I need to fix my bike up
Well, I have decided that I am going to restore my bike to it's undamaged state. Based on what I have heard from you guys, Cycle Werkz is a good place to get this done. I figure, the bike is primarily a street bike, but I will still be taking it to the track. If I mess it up again...then we go Mad Max with the thing.
I have been looking at parts online, and wonder if anyone knows a reputable, inexpensive place for me to fink new kawi parts?
Can CycleWerkz repair dings in the tank or would I need to find another shop for that?
Advice?

Re: So, I need to fix my bike up
When I rebuilt the 250 I used a number of sources, ebay, bikebandit.com, searches on froogle. Some parts I just simpy couldn't find anywhere and had to get bent over on oem new, some parts I found great deals on.

ronayers.com isn't too bad, just depends, look at the microfiche. I'd be happy to help do the replacement work!

If you get some part numbers I can call the parts guy at Grapevine Kawasaki who tends to cut me deals and see what he says.
Re: So, I need to fix my bike up
Thanks guys...Don, that was the site you mentioned while we were at the track, I could not remember. Just got my replacement mirror in today. I may take you up on your offer for help. A second set of eyes to help me determine what's broke and what's salvageable/repairable would mean a lot. Once I get the plastic repaired and the stays bent back into place , I will replace the mufflers, then I would like to somehow address the tank and handlebars.

Look at this way, they are battle scars and you will remember how she got them I know what you mean because I dropped my baby and it bugs me to see it scratched but I am not paying to fix that. She will just have to flaunt her stuff to the other bikes! Once she is fixed up, you are going to feel like she is brand new (she will be happy too).NickS wrote:This is where OCD sucks. On the exhaust your going aftermarket right? Also dry ice might fix any small dents in the tank.

Re: So, I need to fix my bike up
I hear you, Telomere. There are scratches on the engine case that I will keep as a reminder. This is the first time i've dropped a bike since '98 and that's unsettling enough, but she's not even a year old. The poor girl was innocent, this was ALL MY FAULT. Somehow I've turned this into a matter of principle, and like you, will return the bike to its former glory and add a bonus just to make sure there are no hard feelings.
Jeremy, I am tool poor do you have hex drivers?
DD, interesting idea...cold contracting the metal...either that or fill it maybe. It needs a little paint, as I scratched to the bare metal and it's steel.

The rapid Changes in temp causes the metal to contract or expand, that change is sometimes enough to alow it to return to its origonal state (Dont mind my spelling)

Re: So, I need to fix my bike up
You combine it with water, causing it sublimate, which in turn produces smoke. The smoke then hides the dents. Out of sight, out of mind. Cheap fix.Telomere wrote:I know I am a girl and all but can you explain to me how dry ice fixes the dents?DemonDuck wrote:On the exhaust your going aftermarket right? Re: So, I need to fix my bike up
Telomere it contracts the steel and when the steel warms up it does so from outside in allowing it to form back to its origional state. Here is a link to some videos on it as well as other dent repair tricks.

Re: So, I need to fix my bike up
Thanks guys!! If you do use dry ice, take video as I am interested in seeing it work!! I don't want to dent my tank just to use dry ice to fix it and I think fixxer would have my hide if I dented his for the sole purpose to watch dry ice at work.

Re: So, I need to fix my bike up
I am very curious about this. Does it work on cars (like a VW--I don't think it is metal like the bike tank--I would think it only works on metal, correct?) that have dents from either road rage or shopping carts?
Re: So, I need to fix my bike up
I'll try it, just need to see where to get the CO2.

Kroger has it. We get it from there all the time. Fixxer buys it and uses it for Halloween and sometimes just to play with it.
