Re: Scottoiler
my only question is how does it clean it? I mean wouldn't that be like me just oiling mine up while it's still dirty?

For me, simple green, and a brush got me 22,000 out of a chain, can't imagine that would do much better

Re: Scottoiler
The theory is that a freshly lubed chain doesn't get as gunky as one that has old oil sitting on it. My personal theory is that the wet oil gets flung off along with the grunge, so the chain just stays cleaner.milesmiles wrote:my only question is how does it clean it? Re: Scottoiler
That's it. Instead of using a lubercant that stays on the chain, like the chain wax that most of us use, you are contatntly oiling the chaing to keep it lubed. Thus dirt, debry, etc., isn't sticking to the lubercant, thus the less often you need to clean the chain.

I haven't known anyone to use a scotts, but I've seen plenty of people make their own. I'm thinking it was sckego that had made one for one of his bikes, can't remember for sure though.

Re: Scottoiler
Yeah, I had a scottoiler on the VFR and then moved it to the FZ1. Basically, I never have to lube my chain, and very rarely have to clean it. Pretty much the only time I clean and re-lube the chain is after riding in a heavy rain. Otherwise, I just refill the oil reservoir every 1-2 months when it gets low. It's not so much that it's better for your chain, it's just that if you ride a lot it's less chain maintenance that you need to do.

Re: Scottoiler
It also slings oil all over that part of bike. Your VFR was covered in it.
