Bike Ramps - Rhino I'm looking at you

Post by fixxervi6 » Fri Mar 02, 2012 11:48 am

Is this the one you have, which length did you get?

http://www.discountramps.com/black-wido ... -ramps.htm

I just realized track season is upon us and I have no trailer, and the one I want is on back order.

I hate ramps, they scare the hell out of me, but you can get one of these in a triple wide and 12 foot long, which would make for a real nice long wide path to load/unload.

for those prices you can get a trailer at home depot that will hold two bikes!

I would just go rent a uhaul utility trailer with a built-in ramp. Cost me at most $20, pick it up the eve before, then drop it off after track day.

Yep. I have the 10 foot.

If your ramp experience is like I saw with you and Courtney unloading her dirt bike, I can see why you're nervous about using one for your GSXR. Using the Black Widow, even just two of the three, is a completely different experience.

If you're considering buying, you're welcome to try mine out. I'd be glad to demo loading and unloading my bike.

I'm not the best at loading bikes either ( :-o ), but that ramp looked excellent. I'm always willing to fork out extra dough for a quality product that is going to last me forever.

Dude, just swing by the house and try out my aluminum trifold. The other fun part with ramps is that you have to remember it needs to go with you when you go. So you need to keep it a reasonable size so as to not have to still end up with a trailer just to transport the rest of your gear.

Yeah, what Grinner said. The reason I only use 2 of my 3 ramps all the time is that two of them fit behind the seat of the truck, leaving all the spare room in the bed for gear.

:icon_whs0be: That or save up enough that you can buy two of those ramps, and buy a trailer.

I'd have to store a trailer at a storage facility (monthly cost) I'm willing to do it but good trailers are really expensive.

Renting is a pain in the ass, u-haul people are really slow, it's what I've been doing and I usually end up paying for several days.

The other day I saw a little truck, the tailgate had been modified. It looked to me like the guy had taken another tailgate and cut it down by 2/3, he had a mesh (like the motorcycle ramp) welded to it. Drop the tailgate and unfold the ramp.

the trailers at home depot are well within price range, also you can find or buy them much cheaper used. They have the built on ramps that fold down for a lawn mower, just go check them out!

Ah, the ones over here in Roanoke off of 114 are awesome, they worked out some steals ($10 a day) for me, and would even leave the trailer outside the gate for me if I couldn't get over there before they closed.

What he said. I was having to rent for 2 days to do a track day, since I needed to leave my apartment with the bike already on the trailer before U-Haul opened to get to the track on time. With insurance, that was $50 for a single track day, or $70 for a weekend. The ramps at $400 will pay for themselves in one track season, plus now I can do stuff like trailer my dirt bike to the dirt park, trailer a sport bike to Arkansas, etc.

or $30 for some 1x8 planks and make your own. The trick is just finding a good place to load and unload, curbs make a hell of a difference.
