Get a Battery tender... good 20-30 dollar investment and it will make it so nice to plug the bike in without having to go through all the trouble..... also ... Nice bike!

Yeah, that's a trickle charger at my foot. Evidently there's a difference between one of those and an actual battery tender. I had no idea, and neither did the guy at autozone. I suppose that shouldn't have been a big surprise though.

Not much of a difference except a Battery tender allows you to hook a wire up to the battery and run it under your seat or whatever. Then you can just plug the battery tender into the wire to charge it or hook accessories to the wire to run them off the battery ect.

Really? I was under the impression that an actual battery tender will turn itself off when the battery's charged, compared to a trickle charger that'll run indefinitely. Was I misinformed?

It depends on the trickle charger, some shut off, some maintain, others just charge.

The battery tender is different. It's whats known as a float charger. It will shut itself off when the battery is charged, and will monitor and charge as necessary, as the battery needs (maintenance/floating). There are some differences in float chargers as well, and you shouldn't use certain float chargers on certain batteries, but I'm not going to get into that.

I used to have a quick connect setup on my CBR, but I found that it would cause the battery connectors to loosen over time.

I have had one on my 14 for a couple of years now and never had a problem with the looseness. But maybe its because mine is bigger. :))

Get the small 750mAh battery tender and you can't go wrong. You really don't need to worry about the other specifics of the charger until you get into the LiPO batteries. And that one will work fine with the LiPOs as well.

They also sell them at Autozone & O'Reiley's.

The battery tender brand have the quick disconnect leads that you can attach to the battery and leave on, then run the connector next to your seat so you can easily plug it / unplug it. I really like the battery tender jr (that's what I have).

I have a tender with quick disconnect. My bike lives on it like life support 99.9% of the time.

Yep, it's a small investment that will prolong the life of your battery significantly. Nothing worse than dumping cash on a new battery in the spring because the old one got discharged too low during the winter and damaged a cell.

Isn't having a bike one of those fundamental expectations here?
