OEM Supercorsa? Those are not the same as the "real" Supercorsa.

They are OEM, I'm sliding around way more than I should be. I gotta flog the shit out of them to get them hot then they grip ok then they don't stay hot. They may be ok on the track where you can put the abuse on them full time but it's moving around too much on the street.

Yeah, those are not the same. If you were to grab a set of "true" Supercorsa from the Pirelli dealer, you would be amazed at what those tires can do. The Q3s are not even in the same ballpark as those. That said, for the money, Q3s are tough to beat. Probably the best value overall, as far as a sport tire is concerned.

I'm wondering why they chose the Metzeler Sportech instead of the Racetec K series. I'm running Racetec's in the hardest compound (of three), and they are amazing...as I understand it, sister tires to the SuperCorsa's if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, they are so good on the street and track, I can't bring myself to change. They came stock on the S3, and I fully expected to ditch them once worn, but couldn't. Oh well, I can highly recommend them, should you ever wonder and be in the market.

Just have to remind myself the Q3s are not D208GPAs nor are they NTECs either.

In comparison, IMHO, the Q3s of today are as good as D211GPAs were when I ran them in 2008. And, you don't need to run tire warmers on Q3s :)

You could run D208 and D211 without warmers as well, just at lower pressures. Run 20-22 rears and 28-30 fronts, run 3 to 4 laps and then you can go full out on them.

At TWS at full lean I couldn't break the Q3 lose with the 750 - I tried - I couldn't get them to spin up at all. The lean angles they can hit are insane, something like 54 degrees on a 180/55. When they are fresh and hot all I can think of is velcro.

I'd love to try a set of the new supercorsa's but for the money I don't know if I'll bring myself to pull the trigger - my skill does not exceed the Q3 capability so I don't see the need to spend the money.

Okay, my feeble brain needs some help on this one. I hear what you're saying, BUT...the SC's showed significantly faster lap times in the test, which tells me you can ride them faster a full lean, and/or they offer even greater lean...which in turn tells me they have a wider margin of error for we mere mortals...yes...or no? If yes, then doesn't it become much easier to justify the extra moola? And by the way, I'm assuming you're only a mere mortal, so if that is where my calculation failed, please correct me. :-D

That test was done by a racer/magazine writer. I would say probably an above average rider. Just because one person can get good times on one tire over a different tire doesn't mean a whole lot. What matters most is how confident do you feel on the tires you choose. If you feel confident you will be faster. If your not confident you will likely not push hard therefore be slower.

What Dragonfly said + they did the shootout on a liter bike, if the SC's are capable of putting more horsepower to the ground than the Q3's that's where it's really going to show. I ran B class tires on the 250 and had 0 issues.

All I know is the DOT race tires Thomas sold me were scariest during Round Robin and the best when flogging them.

This shootout review is merely a starting point for choosing a tire or a couple of diffrent tires to try out for your next track day. A lot of the scoring for the different sets of tires was/is subjective.

You also need to factor in riding style and/or skill level, size of your bike (CCs),suspension settings, track temps, ambient temps, tire pressures, surface conditions. All of what I just listed have a direct corelation to lap times not just the tire brand you choose.

And cajones...and lack of common sense, I'm guessing as well.

I would say for the money, for most of us, Q3's are the right tire for the track and pretty great on the street. I am quite happy with them. If I had the cash, I'd buy an extra set of rims and have track-day Q3's, and something a bit more hard for the street to get more life out of them. I'd like to be able to get through the Big Bend trip without thinking about the fact I just burned through an entire rear tire in 5 days :-)

Which is why I want to buy a second set of wheels and run my Angels on the street since they are wearing really well...
