Grand Entrance

Post by Yankee » Tue Feb 10, 2015 7:04 am

I would like to introduce myself, to everyone. My name is Ben, I live in Weatherford and ride a Fz-07.
I finally started riding in Dec. 2014, and I must say it is the most fun and obsessive purchase I've ever made. Up to this point I've never understood how someone could spend so non work time on a computer, I always thought they were just looking at porn, or looking up how to traffic humans or some such thing. Now, I'm always watching youtube about motorcycles, reviews about gear for motorcycles, how to about motorcycle, capabilities about varies types of motorcycles.
I learned of the club through Miles, and went on a moderate ride this Sunday 2/6/14, first non solo ride ever, being new everyone was very patient and gave me some great advice on how to ride safer and not have my foot ripped off. I do love the excitement of moving quickly but I also want to repeat it as much as possible, so I really like the groups commitment to safety, and patience to instruct new riders.

1. the majority of my time is looking at porn on the internet...and motorcycles. Sometimes i even mix the two.
2. I'm going to go easy on you for not posting a pic of your bike, but everyone here would love to see pics of it!
3. you did awesome on the ride, very impressed
4. Glad to finally have you on the boards. Welcome to the obsession.

Welcome Ben, good to meet you on Sunday. Again, sweet bike. And you better get some pictures of it posted...that's the calmest I've ever seen Miles ask for a bike pic. And there may be a few more no-pic-a-phobes trolling. :-)

Seriously, YouTube and the Internet will tell you a lot, but when you've got questions about gear, accessories, maintenance and so on, post it on here. While it's often hard to decipher between all of the wise-ass comments and jokes...that's one of the great benefits of this group, there is a wealth of knowledge to be had, especially for newer riders (heck, I've been riding since rock wheels and they still teach me things). AND the wise-ass comments and jokes can actually be quite entertaining.

If you can swing it, try to come to Cresson to the track on Sunday (3/8) or Monday (3/9), some of us will be participating. I think you'll have a good time hanging out, and seeing what goes on. They talked me into trying a track day last spring, and I had a blast. Some of the participants this go-round are on the track for the first time also. Plus, they'll teach you a lot. If you end up being interested in trying it yourself, you can sign-up for 1/2 price your first time out ($75 I think it is), and they'll even provide you a suit to ride in for free that first time. Check the Ridesmart thread for more details on who/what/when.

Again, welcome and I look forward to riding with you.

Hi Yankee, welcome!!!! So happy your first group experience was terrific! Group rides are so much fun!!! I promise you, you have definitely found the best group of riders who will encourage you, support you, and guide you. ^_^ I'm a newb too and love picking their brains (and noses, if bribed with beer I guess)- so please never be shy to ask questions and also share your knowledge and experience too.

Don't listen to that LoneStar guy, none of us has a sense of humor; all we do on the boards is share Pinterest pins about how to soften bunions and which flushable moist wipe is the least irritating to sensitive skin. And pretty serious arguments about folding or crumpling toilet paper (which, by the way, do you prefer?). :-)

Warmer weather coming so that means more rides! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Please post a pic of your bike when you are able; cheers! 8)

And ignore this. This argument is not held on the boards, but was held at the last camping trip.

Thanks for the welcomes.
As far as toilet paper debates go, wtf everyone knows you fold it and you should especially know with the advent of flushable wipes, go ahead and try to wad that up and use it.
