Moderate Ride - Saturday, August 22

Post by LonestarCBR » Thu Aug 06, 2015 2:03 pm

Subject: Moderate - Saturday, August 22, 2015
FWMR Club Ride

Meetup: Sonic on Clifford St. in White Settlement http://www.fwmr.net/SonicMap.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Kick stands up: 8:30 a.m.
Ride Leader: LonestarCBR (Terry)

This will be a Moderate pace ride. Moderates are great for riders who want a slightly faster pace than beginners but still slow enough to be relaxed and comfortable on any sized bike, with a passenger, or learning to ride with the group. The pace for a moderate ride is at or near posted speed limits. On a Moderate ride the ride leader tries to keep a closer eye on the group and adjust the speeds appropriately.

Please be dressed appropriately: helmet, jacket, gloves, over the ankle shoes and long pants, arrive with a full tank of gas, and be ready to depart at 8:30. You'll need adequate tires, and be sure your chain is adjusted properly please.

This ride will feature a southwesterly direction (away from Oklahoma). There will be some slab at the beginning, and possibly some at the end so we can get to the better riding quicker and hopefully avoid some heat. We'll have a break at 45 miles (there is only 87 octane gas at this stop), then a second formal gas stop 55 miles further (100 total). Then another 65 miles to lunch at Hard 8 in Stephenville, around 11:30 to 12:00. There will be slab-it straight home or more backroad riding options after lunch, depending on your schedule.

It will be a hot day most likely, so camelbacks are recommended..."if you got 'em, smok...err, bring it". Otherwise, stash some water or Gatorade.

Total Sonic to Sonic route approximately 260 miles. Except for the slab, this will be a pretty nice, relatively twisty route, with very little of the county road "goat trails" we encountered on the Indian Bridge challenge. Mostly Farm to Market roads in good condition.

Finally, there is a free stainless steel, FWMR-logo "kick-stand" plate to all who show up.

Shoot. Are those handed out at the beginning or end of the ride?

So what lonestar is saying is he is going to tape the plates to various parts of his bike, and as those parts fall off during the ride, everyone behind him will be encouraged to grab the parts and they get to keep the kick-stand plate and return whatever fell off so he can WB weld it back on.

If I get my cycle back from the recall work, I will be there for this one. I want one of those cool FWMR shark things.

I should be in on this. Wouldn't be much of a final exam without one like me in the pack.
