Ridesmart 2016 calander - TWS

Post by nitzer » Fri Jan 15, 2016 3:24 pm

Looks like they have quite a few TWS track days planned. I was talking to a guy here at work about the track and why it's staying open longer than expected. He actually knew the guy that owned it before the investment/developer bought it. He was saying that the reason it's still open is due to the soil. The soil is coming back as being contaminated with fuel and oil so the permits to build on the site are on hold until those issues are resolved.

Heard a rumor that the contamination is so bad they would need to excavate the entire property 10' deep as well as 10' out from the border of the property.

Not really. What the EPA contains hazardous is pretty wide open. You ever spilled oil in your garage? Ground around the garage is probably contaiminated.

Still...this (excavate the entire property 10' deep as well as 10' out from the border of the property) is pretty hard to imagine.

It would have to be raining oil for something of this magnitude.

I don't know, the track has been there for how long? How much oil and other chemicals would have been spilled or dumped and then rain washed to who knows where or how deep. I also heard that there were cars and other things buried on the property, that may not have been illegal at the time, would certainty be now.

No. That's their typical remediation plan. Take x samples, evaluate whole property, go 10x10 for x amount of property. In doing dealer business deals. The soil test is always an area of concern.

But don't forget, the EPA is here to protect you!

I heard the same thing, the ground there is super contaminated with insane amounts of tires, cars, oil etc.

I'm needing some new tires...they shouldn't have any UV damage.
