Electronics repair

Post by dufremle » Wed Oct 11, 2017 7:55 am

Does anyone know someone who can fix electronics, other than phones and computers? I have a CPAP machine that won't turn on. I think it might be a capacitor, but I don't know. I called a few local repair shops, but they only work on computers or phones.

Might have to find a medical equipment repair place.

I could take a look at it, if it is something simple I might be able to fix it.

After it was unplugged for a while, the screen would not turn on right away when plugged back in. Reading some forums people have used hair dryers to warm up the electronics and then it would come on. Mine would come on after being plugged in for about 30 minutes, but after I came back from Germany it wouldn't come on at all, even after being plugged in for a couple of days. Germany uses 220V so not sure if that may have taken out whatever was starting to go bad, but it worked fine while there. I left it out in the sun for several hours to get it warm but that didn't work. Some one had posted that it was a bad capacitor that was causing the issue, so that is what I am assuming.

I can bring it to bike night tomorrow if you are going to be there.

interesting, do you have to use the hair dryer trick ever time, or just once and it fixed?

I don't think I'm going to make it to bike night this month.

As long as I leave it plugged in it continues to work (the bastard idles hot too) I have mine on a UPS, so long as the power never goes out longer than the battery will last I shouldn't have to ever hair dryer it again.

I don't have a hair dryer, so I thought leaving it out in the sun might work. maybe it needs to be plugged in when warming it up. Either way, I already received a new CPAP so I only want to use the old one as a backup.

Your soldering joints have probably gone cold. If you open it up and look at the logic board, are the solder joints dull looking or are they shiny? Probably as easy as cleaning it up and resoldering... Fixed my rear view mirror and remote controls that way, but I'm by no means an electronic repairman.
