that's all it is? Rice? No flavoring or anything?

Why does it take all day to make it? Couldn't you just throw it in the food processor?

Sometimes bean paste or ume (pickled cherries) are added, but pretty much its just rice. Here's a cool photoset showing the process... its steamed and pounded in 10 lb batches, then rolled and packaged up to be given out. These pictures bring back memories...

And Blizz, you start talking about food... you're gonna get conversation! =P

Is this going to be a theme party or not? You can't just say it's a theme party, you have to do the work and prepare the theme food, get the decorations, turn the back yard into an island, find a palm tree, and don't forget the island girls in grass skirts and coconut tops.

Ok, we are doing a theme party. I have some decorations, need to get a few more.. Also, we are going to Kabobs. Since Hawaiian food is hard to come by here, its the next best thing. Everyone will get to make what they want on them, we will just have the fire going and all the fixin's. Anyone have any coconuts?

Well, if someone has the coconut bra, I will wear a grass skirt... If not, I will at least wear the skirt and something on top.

Kalbi recipe, as promised... I did 1.5x this for the camping trip.

4 lbs beef ribs, flanken style (I usually get these at the asian market at Arkansas and Collins in Arlington)

2 tsp sesame seeds- heat in pan till brown and popping, then
squish/pound them. Add to...
1 c.shoyu
1/2 c. brown sugar
4 cloves diced garlic
4 tbsp green onions
2 tbsp sesame seed oil
1 tbsp black pepper

Marinate ribs for 1-2 days.

Jim, bring a cake! Better yet, get a cake with the FWMR logo printed on it!

Seriously, bring a cake :-) And candles. Cigarettes don't blow out very easily...

A cake it is. Any preference to flavor? If not it will probably be chocolate.

I like vanilla (white) cake... it can be a marble or something, but straight chocolate is to much for me

Well, you are the birthday girl, so you get what you want. What do you want? :D

As long as Wal-Mart or Albertson's makes it, that is. :)
